


{"id":29312,"date":"2025-01-09T09:45:21","date_gmt":"2025-01-09T04:15:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=29312"},"modified":"2025-04-09T02:07:56","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T20:37:56","slug":"neuroptera-species","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/neuroptera-species\/","title":{"rendered":"Neuroptera Species"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Neuroptera Species:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Indophanes barbara<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is <strong>an antlion<\/strong> belonging to the Myrmeleontidae<strong> family.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The larva of Indophanes barbara does not build pits like common antlion species.<\/li>\n<li>They live under the <strong>surface in loose soils<\/strong> where they are protected from direct sunlight, wind and rain.<\/li>\n<li>Adults of Indophanes barbara are misidentified as damselflies by non-taxonomists because of their morphological resemblance.<\/li>\n<li>It can be easily distinguished by their <strong>long distinct antennae.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They come under Order Neuroptera, which includes holometabolous insects while the damselflies come under Order Odonata, which includes hemimetabolous insects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Glenochrysa zeylanica<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a green lacewing of Chrysopidae family in Order Neuroptera.<\/li>\n<li>It was rediscovered after 111 years from Mananthavady and Thirunelly in Wayanad district.<\/li>\n<li>This species, previously thought to be endemic to Sri Lanka, has been rediscovered from the State and <strong>reported for the first time from India.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is a Neuroptera Species?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is any of a group of insects commonly called lacewings because of the complex vein patterns in the wings, giving them a lacy appearance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Habitat:<\/strong> Neuropteran adults are terrestrial and mostly associated with the aerial parts of plants, where they settle or hunt for prey.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ecological Significance:<\/strong> Due to their predatory behaviour, Neuropterans are used in agriculture. The voracious feeding capability, as well as active mobile prey-searching behaviour revealed by the larvae of species particularly of Chrysopidae, Hemerobiidae, and Coniopterygidae makes them active biological control agents of most important pests of agriculture and horticulture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1: What is Damselfly?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>It is any of a group of predatory, aerial insects that are in the order Odonata. Damselflies are found mainly near shallow, freshwater habitats and are graceful fliers with slender bodies and long, filmy, net-veined wings.
