{"id":29372,"date":"2025-01-13T02:59:38","date_gmt":"2025-01-12T21:29:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=29372"},"modified":"2025-04-09T02:35:11","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T21:05:11","slug":"universal-account-number","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/universal-account-number\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Universal Account Number (UAN)?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Universal Account Number (UAN):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>UAN is a number <strong>allotted to all salaried employees<\/strong>, <strong>who contribute<\/strong> a part of their income <strong>towards the Employee Provident Fund (EPF).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is a <strong>12-digit number<\/strong> that each member of the EPF is allotted against his\/her name.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is generated and <strong>allotted by the Employees\u2019 Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO)<\/strong> and <strong>authenticated by the Ministry of Labour and Employment<\/strong>, Government of India.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>This number is the <strong>same throughout an employee\u2019s professional life.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>When an employee changes his job<\/strong>, his EPF account number and Member Identification Number (<strong>Member Id) change,<\/strong> but <strong>UAN remains the same<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>If a member has already been allotted a UAN, then s\/he may provide the same to the new establishment\/employer, which in turn will mark the new allotted Member Id to the UAN.<\/li>\n<li>The UAN will act as <strong>an umbrella for the multiple Member Ids allotted<\/strong> to an individual <strong>by different establishments<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>This will help the member to view details of all the Member Ids linked to it.<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>useful for EPFO to track multiple job switches<\/strong> of the employee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key Facts about Employee Provident Fund (EPF):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>EPF is the <strong>main scheme under the Employees&#8217; Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Act, 1952.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The scheme is <strong>administered by the Employees&#8217; Provident Fund Organization<\/strong> (EPFO).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Every establishment with 20 or more employees is covered,<\/strong> and some organisations that employ fewer than 20 people are also covered, subject to certain constraints and exemptions.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>employee and employer each contribute 12% of the employee&#8217;s basic salary and dearness allowance<\/strong> towards EPF.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>After the employee retires<\/strong>, they <strong>receive a lump sum<\/strong> that includes both their own and the employer&#8217;s contributions, in addition to interest on both.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1: Who gives the UAN number??<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Universal Account Number (UAN) is being allotted by Employees&#8217; Fund Organization (EPFO) only.
