


{"id":29464,"date":"2025-01-16T04:27:25","date_gmt":"2025-01-15T22:57:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=29464"},"modified":"2025-04-09T08:17:58","modified_gmt":"2025-04-09T02:47:58","slug":"atomic-energy-commission-aec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/atomic-energy-commission-aec\/","title":{"rendered":"Atomic Energy Commission (AEC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Atomic Energy Commission (AEC):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the <strong>governing body of<\/strong> the <strong>Department of Atomic Energy (DAE),<\/strong> Government of India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>AEC<\/strong> was <strong>first set up in August 1948 in the Department of Scientific Research<\/strong>, which was created a few months earlier in June 1948.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Department of Atomic Energy (DAE<\/strong>) was <strong>set up on August 3, 1954, under <\/strong>the <strong>direct charge of thePrime Minister through a Presidential Order<\/strong>.\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>As per this order, <strong>all businesses<\/strong> of the Government of India <strong>related to atomic energy<\/strong> and to the functions of the Central Government <strong>under the Atomic Energy Act, 1948, <\/strong>were directed to be<strong> transacted in the DAE.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>DAE encompasses <strong>all the areas related to power and non-power applications of atomic energy.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The Department has the <strong>mandate of development of nuclear power technology<\/strong> which includes exploration, identification and processing of uranium resources and atomic minerals, fabrication of nuclear fuel, production of heavy water, construction and <strong>operation of nuclear power plants<\/strong>, <strong>nuclear fuel reprocessing<\/strong> and <strong>waste management<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>DAE is also responsible for <strong>research and development of fast reactors and fusion technologies,<\/strong> accelerator and laser technology, <strong>advanced electronics and instrumentation, materials science, biological sciences, etc.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>As part of <strong>non-power applications of atomic energy<\/strong>, the Department carries out cutting-edge research and development for the application of isotopes and radiation technologies for health care, food &amp; agriculture, industry, and the environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Subsequently, in accordance with a <strong>government resolution dated March 1, 1958<\/strong>, the <strong>Atomic Energy Commission (AEC)<\/strong> was <strong>established in the DAE.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The AEC is <strong>responsible for formulating the policy of the DAE.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>secretary to the <\/strong>government of India in<strong> the DAEis ex-officio chairman of the AEC.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>other members<\/strong> of the AEC are <strong>appointed<\/strong> for each calendar year <strong>on the recommendation of the AEC chairman<\/strong> and <strong>after approval by the Prime Minister<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Headquarters: Mumbai<\/strong>, Maharashtra<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: Who is the first Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC)?<\/h3>\n<p>Homi Jehangir Bhabha was the first Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) of India.
