{"id":29468,"date":"2025-07-12T12:40:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-12T07:10:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=29468"},"modified":"2025-07-12T14:21:17","modified_gmt":"2025-07-12T08:51:17","slug":"blood-money","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/blood-money\/","title":{"rendered":"Blood Money"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Blood Money Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A nurse from Kerala, Nimisha Priya, sentenced to death in Yemen for the 2017 murder of Talal Abdo Mahdi, may be saved by &#8216;Diyah&#8217; (blood money) under Islamic sharia law.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Blood Money<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Under the Islamic Sharia law<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, blood money, or &#8216;diya&#8217;, means that the <\/span><b>accused provides financial compensation to the family of the victim<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in serious crimes such as murder.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is followed in countries that incorporate these laws in their legislation.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The custom is practised <\/span><b>predominantly in cases involving unintentional murder and culpable homicide.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>also invoked<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in murder cases wherein the <\/span><b>victim\u2019s kin choose not to retaliate through \u2018qisas\u2019 (a way of retribution under the Sharia).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>end-goal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as the law says, is not to put a price tag on human life but to <\/span><b>alleviate the plight and suffering of the affected family <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and their potential loss of income.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, it is to be noted that even if the concerned parties reconcile through \u2018blood money\u2019, the <\/span><b>community and the state will retain the right to impose a deterrent punishment, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">including penalties.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In its contemporary applications, \u2018blood money\u2019 is<\/span><b> upheld in several Islamic countries <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with factors such as gender, religion, and nationality of the victim coming into play.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>In Saudi Arabia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, for instance, the <\/span><b>traffic regulations specifically mandate payment of \u2018blood money\u2019 to heirs of the victims who die in road accident<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s. In addition, the perpetrator shall be liable to a prison term.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The system of blood money <\/span><b>leaves the fate of the offender in the hands of the victim&#8217;s family.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Sharia law does not state a fixed amount <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for &#8216;diya&#8217;.
