{"id":2959,"date":"2023-02-09T04:17:02","date_gmt":"2023-02-08T22:47:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=2959"},"modified":"2025-03-26T09:25:18","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T03:55:18","slug":"what-is-the-vikas-engine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-the-vikas-engine\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the Vikas Engine?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Vikas Engine:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>VIKAS (an acronym for Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai) engine is a family of <strong>liquid-fuelled rocket engines <\/strong>conceptualized and <strong>designed by the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre<\/strong> of ISRO <strong>in the 1970s.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>early productions<\/strong> involved imported <strong>French components<\/strong>, which were <strong>later replaced by domestically produced equivalents.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>These engines are <strong>deployed for ISRO\u2019s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV<\/strong>) and the <strong>Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV)<\/strong> series of expendable launch vehicles for space launch use.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>fuel load<\/strong> of the Vikas engine is <strong>40 tonnes for the PSLV<\/strong>, <strong>GSLV Mark I and II<\/strong>, and <strong>55 tonnes for the GSLV Mark III.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC):<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>LPSC<\/strong> is a <strong>research and development<\/strong> center functioning <strong>under ISRO.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is the center for the <strong>design, developmen<\/strong>t, and realization of <strong>liquid propulsion stages for ISRO&#8217;s Launch Vehicles.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>LPSC activities and facilities are spread across its <strong>two campuses<\/strong>: LPSC, <strong>Valiamala, Thiruvananthapuram<\/strong>, and LPSC, <strong>Bengaluru, Karnataka<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the advantage of liquid-fuelled rocket engines?<\/h3>\n<p>Advantages of liquid propellant rockets include the highest energy per unit of fuel mass, variable thrust, and a restart capability.
