{"id":29610,"date":"2025-01-23T06:46:58","date_gmt":"2025-01-23T01:16:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=29610"},"modified":"2025-04-09T09:26:32","modified_gmt":"2025-04-09T03:56:32","slug":"mannan-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/mannan-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Mannan Community"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Mannan Community Latest News<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Raman Rajamannan, the king of the Mannan community and the only tribal king in Kerala, will participate in the Republic Day parade in Delhi.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>About Mannan Community:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Mannan is a <strong>scheduled tribe (ST) of Kerala.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is the <strong>only<\/strong> Adhivasi <strong>tribal dynasty with a kingship currently existing in South India.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The life of the Mannan Community is <strong>closely related to Tamil<\/strong> culture.\n<ul>\n<li>They <strong>speak a dialect similar to Tamil<\/strong> but without a script.<\/li>\n<li>It is believed that they were <strong>originally from Tamil Nadu<\/strong> and later migrated to Idukki during the period of Poonjar Rajavamsham (kings).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Nearly <strong>97 percent<\/strong> of the Mannan community&#8217;s population <strong>reside in Idukki District.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Though they <strong>used to stay in remote forests,<\/strong> they were <strong>forced to migrate<\/strong> to plots allotted by the government at the <strong>outskirts of the Periyar Tiger Reserve<\/strong>, a few decades back, following a government ban on deforestation in the preserved area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>They follow a <strong>matrilineal system of descent<\/strong>, and their <strong>ruler, the Raja Mannan<\/strong>, is elected by community headmen from among those eligible by heredity.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Their <strong>primary occupation is agriculture,<\/strong> including coconut harvesting, cultivation of herbs, etc.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>They practice <strong>Hinduism<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Their main <strong>celebrations include the Kalavoot, Meenoot and Mutthiamman Festival<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mannankoothu<\/strong> is a <strong>unique ritual art<\/strong> form performed by the Mannans.
