Latest News<\/h2>\n<p>Recently, the Kerala government launched KaWaCHaM, one of the world\u2019s fastest weather alert systems.<\/p>\n<h2>About KaWaCHaM:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>KaWaCHaM\u2019 stands for <strong>Kerala Warnings Crisis and Hazards Management System<\/strong>, and the word kavacham in Malayalam translates to \u2018shield\u2019, symbolising protection.<\/li>\n<li>It is an <strong>advanced disaster warning system<\/strong> that integrates alerts, sirens, and global weather models to improve the state\u2019s early disaster preparedness and public safety.<\/li>\n<li>It is designed to <strong>enhance rescue and rehabilitation efforts<\/strong> during extreme weather events driven by climate change.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Funding:<\/strong> It is developed with funding from the <strong>National Disaster Management Authority and the World Bank <\/strong>as part of the National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Key Features of KaWaCHaM<\/h2>\n<p>It includes <strong>hazard assessment, alert issuance<\/strong>, and action planning according to threat levels.<\/p>\n<p>The project aims to install 126 sirens and strobe lights on tall towers, government buildings, and schools.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Each <strong>siren has three colours<\/strong>\u2014red, yellow, and orange\u2014in the strobe light and is equipped with eight loudspeakers.<\/li>\n<li>These sirens can broadcast warnings up to <strong>1,200 metres away<\/strong> and provide essential information about emergency camps and safety precautions.<\/li>\n<li>The system will include <strong>pre-recorded voice messages and audio alerts<\/strong> to provide various warnings.<\/li>\n<li>Under the project, the <strong>state integrates all early warning systems<\/strong> into a framework that disseminates knowledge, issues warnings, monitors developing crises and ensures responses.<\/li>\n<li>It has been created to assess hazards, issue alerts, and take action based on the threat level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Working Of KaWaCHaM<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>KaWaCHaM <strong>collects data from various sources,<\/strong> including weather networks such as India Meteorological Department, INCOIS, and CWC, private and public agencies, social media networks, and the Internet.<\/li>\n<li>The warnings will cover sea attacks, heavy rainfall, strong winds, and extreme heat.<\/li>\n<li>It is headed by the state emergency operation centre, will operate at the taluk (subdistrict) level and cover all vulnerable areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>KaWaCHaM
