{"id":29761,"date":"2026-01-29T11:20:32","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T05:50:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=29761"},"modified":"2026-02-07T08:06:35","modified_gmt":"2026-02-07T02:36:35","slug":"rusty-spotted-cat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/rusty-spotted-cat\/","title":{"rendered":"Rusty-Spotted Cat"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Rusty-Spotted Cat<\/b> <b>Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Rusty-spotted Cat, a rare and one of the world&#8217;s smallest cats, was recently spotted in the Shergarh forest of Baran district in Rajasthan.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Rusty-Spotted Cat<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>world\u2019s smallest and lightest known cat.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Scientific Name:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Prionailurus rubiginosus.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Distribution of\u00a0 Rusty-Spotted Cat<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The species has been recorded in <\/span><b>dry deciduous and semi-deciduous forests<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in <\/span><b>northern and central India, Western Ghats, Kachchh and Rajasthan,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>peninsular India,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> besides<\/span><b> Nepal and Sri Lanka.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>India holds 80 percent <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the cat\u2019s total population.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Features of\u00a0 Rusty-Spotted Cat<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It weighs less than 1.5 kilograms and is 20 to 29 inches in length, about <\/span><b>half the size of a domestic cat.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>fur is short and soft<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with the <\/span><b>upper parts <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a <\/span><b>grizzled brownish grey,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tinged with rufous to varying degrees and marked with <\/span><b>rust-brown spots.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are <\/span><b>horizontal bars on the legs and chest;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the belly and inner sides of the legs are white.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their<\/span><b> head is short and rounded<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and marked with <\/span><b>two white streaks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the inner edges of the eyes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>eyes are fairly large<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with irises of greyish brown to amber.
