{"id":30377,"date":"2025-06-23T12:00:46","date_gmt":"2025-06-23T06:30:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=30377"},"modified":"2025-06-23T14:06:56","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T08:36:56","slug":"ins-tamal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ins-tamal\/","title":{"rendered":"INS Tamal"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>INS Tamal Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Indian Navy is all set to commission its latest stealth multi-role frigate Tamal on 01 Jul 2025 at Kaliningrad, Russia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About INS Tamal<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>stealth multi-role frigate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> belonging to the series of <\/span><b>Krivak class frigates<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> inducted from Russia over the past two decades.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ship\u2019s name, Tamal, symbolises the mythical sword used for combat by <\/span><b>Indra &#8211; the King of the gods.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>second ship of the Tushil Class,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which are the upgraded versions of their predecessors, Talwar and Teg classes having three ships each.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was built at <\/span><b>Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and is the last warship to be inducted from a foreign source, in line with the Government of India\u2019s impetus on Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Features of INS Tamal<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has <\/span><b>26% indigenous components<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including the <\/span><b>BrahMos long-range cruise missile<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for targeting both at sea and land.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has significant upgrades in its arsenal in comparison to its predecessors, such as vertically launched <\/span><b>surface-to-air missiles<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, improved 100 MM gun, new age EO\/IR system in addition to the standard 30 MM CIWS, heavyweight torpedoes, urgent-attack anti-submarine rockets, and a host of surveillance and fire control radars and systems.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Force multipliers include Air Early Warning and Multi Role helicopters, which can operate from the deck of Tamal.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The combat capability of the ship is augmented by a host of <\/span><b>Network Centric Warfare capabilities and advanced Electronic Warfare suite<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tamal punches well above its weight with a very high tonnage to firepower ratio, extended endurance, and a top speed in <\/span><b>excess of 30 knots.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has successively completed extensive sea trials undertaken over three months, proving its systems, weapons and sensors.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its <\/span><b>mascot<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is inspired by the congruence of the \u2018Jambavant\u2019 the Immortal Bear King of Indian Mythology and the Russian National Animal &#8211; the Eurasian Brown Bear.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2138662\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>PIB<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>INS Tamal is a stealth multi-role frigate of the Krivak class, part of India\u2019s naval fleet inducted from Russia, enhancing maritime strike and defense capabilities.
