{"id":30497,"date":"2026-01-24T11:12:56","date_gmt":"2026-01-24T05:42:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=30497"},"modified":"2026-02-07T08:17:51","modified_gmt":"2026-02-07T02:47:51","slug":"pandoh-dam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/pandoh-dam\/","title":{"rendered":"Pandoh Dam"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Pandoh Dam Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The release of silt-laden water from Pandoh Dam into the Sutlej river, instead of the Beas, by Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has drawn the ire of the Punjab Government. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Pandoh Dam<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>embankment dam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> constructed on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/about-beas-river\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Beas River<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the Mandi district of <\/span><b>Himachal Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located at a distance of <\/span><b>10 km from Manali.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the <\/span><b>Beas Project,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the dam was <\/span><b>completed <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the year <\/span><b>1977, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and it was built with the primary purpose of <\/span><b>hydroelectric power generation.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>concrete gravity dam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, around 76 meters high and about 492 meters long.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Being a part of a <\/span><b>run-of-the-river power design<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, this dam<\/span><b> diverts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>water of the Beas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> River through 38 km long canals and tunnels to <\/span><b>generate power at the Dehar Power House before being discharged into the Sutlej <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">River.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>powerhouse <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has an installed capacity of <\/span><b>990 MW.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The dam has also created the <\/span><b>Pandoh Lake,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a popular tourist spot located 19 km upstream from the town of Mandi.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The dam is under the <\/span><b>Bhakra Beas Management Board.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>road<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that goes <\/span><b>over the dam is NH 21.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tribuneindia.com\/news\/punjab\/silt-laden-water-release-by-bbmb-from-pandoh-dam-led-to-190-cr-loss-state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> <strong>TRIBI<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pandoh Dam is an embankment dam constructed on the Beas River in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.
