{"id":30858,"date":"2026-08-17T10:19:59","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T04:49:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=30858"},"modified":"2026-08-17T12:55:37","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T07:25:37","slug":"about-national-consumer-disputes-redressal-commission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/about-national-consumer-disputes-redressal-commission\/","title":{"rendered":"National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Mandate"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Supreme Court expressed concern over the pending cases in the National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission and asked the Centre to consider setting up regional and circuit benches to clear the backlog.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>quasi-judicial commission<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> set up in 1988 under the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/consumer-protection-act-1986\/\" target=\"_blank\">Consumer Protection Act of 1986<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Mandate:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To provide inexpensive, speedy, and summary <\/span><b>redressal of consumer disputes.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Commission is headed by a <\/span><b>sitting or a retired Judge of the Supreme Court of India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or a <\/span><b>sitting or a retired Chief Justice of an Hon&#8217;ble High Court.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Jurisdiction:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It shall have jurisdiction to entertain a <\/span><b>complaint valued more than two crore<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and also have appellate and <\/span><b>revisional jurisdiction<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the orders <\/span><b>of State Commissions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or the <\/span><b>District fora<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as the case may be.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The provisions of this act <\/span><b>cover \u2018goods\u2019 as well as \u2018services\u2019.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Appeal:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Any person aggrieved by an order of NCDRC, may prefer an appeal against such an order to <\/span><b>SC within a period of 30 days.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its head office is <\/span><b>located in New Delhi.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A complaint may be filed by the following:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A consumer<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any <\/span><b>voluntary consumer association<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> registered under the Companies Act 1956<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Central Government or any State Government<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One or more consumers where there are numerous consumers.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hindustantimes.com\/india-news\/sc-expresses-concern-over-pendency-of-cases-at-ncdrc-bats-for-regional-circuit-benches-101786608299815.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">HT<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission is a quasi-judicial commission set up in 1988 under the Consumer Protection Act of 1986.
