{"id":30878,"date":"2023-08-24T11:55:27","date_gmt":"2023-08-24T06:25:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=30878"},"modified":"2025-04-16T00:39:11","modified_gmt":"2025-04-15T19:09:11","slug":"zika-virus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/zika-virus\/","title":{"rendered":"Zika Virus"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Zika Virus:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>mosquito-borne virus<\/strong> that was first identified in the Zika Forest of Uganda in 1947.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Transmission<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is primarily <strong>transmitted to humans<\/strong> through the bite of <strong>infected Aedes mosquitoes<\/strong>, particularly Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus.<\/li>\n<li>It can also <strong>spread through sexual contact<\/strong>, <strong>blood transfusion<\/strong>, and from an infected mother to her baby during pregnancy or childbirth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Symptoms<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Many people infected with this virus do not experience any symptoms (asymptomatic).<\/li>\n<li>When symptoms do occur, they are <strong>often mild and include fever, rash, joint<\/strong> pain, muscle pain, headache, and <strong>red eyes (conjunctivitis<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li>Symptoms typically <strong>appear two to seven days after being bitten<\/strong> by an infected mosquito and can last for several days to a week.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>What are the complications?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>This virus infection is usually mild, it can have <strong>serious consequences<\/strong> for <strong>pregnant women and their babies.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Infection during pregnancy can lead to <strong>birth defects such as microcephaly<\/strong>, as well as other neurological disorders in the baby.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It has also <strong>been linked to Guillain-Barr\u00e9 syndrome<\/strong>, a rare <strong>autoimmune disorder<\/strong> that can lead to muscle weakness and paralysis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Treatment: <\/strong>There is <strong>no specific treatment<\/strong> available for Zika virus infection or disease.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is microcephaly?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a birth defect where a baby&#8217;s head is smaller than expected when compared to babies of the same sex and age.
