{"id":31015,"date":"2023-08-31T04:38:03","date_gmt":"2023-08-30T23:08:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=31015"},"modified":"2025-04-16T08:25:46","modified_gmt":"2025-04-16T02:55:46","slug":"ce-20-cryogenic-engine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ce-20-cryogenic-engine\/","title":{"rendered":"CE-20 cryogenic engine"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About CE-20 cryogenic engine:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It has been designed and developed by\u00a0<strong>the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre<\/strong> (LPSC), a subsidiary of ISRO.<\/li>\n<li>It will power\u00a0<strong>the Cryogenic Upper Stage of the LVM3<\/strong> launch vehicle.<\/li>\n<li>ISRO will use it for its \u2018Mission Gaganyaan\u2019 for sending man to space in 2024.<\/li>\n<li>It is the first Indian cryogenic engine to feature a gas-generator cycle.<\/li>\n<li>It is one of the most powerful\u00a0<strong>upper-stage cryogenic engines in the world<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>This engine develops a nominal thrust of 186.36 kN in vacuum.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>What is a Cryogenic stage?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The cryogenic stage is technically a very complex system due to its use of propellants at\u00a0<strong>extremely low temperatures\u00a0<\/strong>and the associated thermal and structural problems.<\/li>\n<li>It uses liquid fuels (<strong>Oxygen\u00a0<\/strong>liquifies at -183 deg C and\u00a0<strong>Hydrogen<\/strong> at -253 deg C)\u00a0<strong>that are cooled to very low temperatures.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A Cryogenic rocket stage is more efficient and provides more thrust for every kilogram of propellant it burns compared to solid and earth-storable liquid propellant rocket stages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Launch Vehicle Mark-3?<\/h3>\n<p>LVM3 is configured as a three stage vehicle with two solid strap-on motors (S200), one liquid core stage (L110) and a high thrust cryogenic upper stage (C25). The S200 solid motor is among the largest solid boosters in the world with 204 tonnes of solid propellant.
