{"id":31054,"date":"2026-09-01T12:52:39","date_gmt":"2026-09-01T07:22:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=31054"},"modified":"2026-09-01T15:28:28","modified_gmt":"2026-09-01T09:58:28","slug":"ramon-magsaysay-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ramon-magsaysay-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Ramon Magsaysay Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Ramon Magsaysay Award Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, Singaporean lawyer and diplomat Tommy Koh, Myanmar activist Bo Kyi and Bangladeshi social worker Runa Khan have been named winners of this year\u2019s Ramon Magsaysay Awards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Ramon Magsaysay Award<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is Asia\u2019s premier prize and highest honor, <\/span><b>celebrates greatness of spirit and transformative leadership in Asia.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was first <\/span><b>given in 1958<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and named after former Philippine <\/span><b>president Ramon Magsaysay.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is presented in formal <\/span><b>ceremonies in Manila, Philippines on August 31st.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Selection:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Awardees, annually <\/span><b>selected by the RMAF board of trustees<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, are presented with a certificate and a medallion with an embossed image of Ramon Magsaysay facing right in profile.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From 1958 to 2008, the Award was given in <\/span><b>six categories annually:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Government Service:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To recognize outstanding service in the public interest in any branch of government, including the executive, judicial, legislative, or military;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Public Service:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To recognize outstanding service for the public good by a private citizen;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Community Leadership:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To recognize leadership of a community toward helping the disadvantaged have fuller opportunities and a better life;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Journalism, Literature, and Creative Communication Arts:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To recognize effective writing, publishing, or photography or the use of radio, television, cinema, or the performing arts as a power for the public good;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Peace and International Understanding<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: To recognize contributions to the advancement of friendship, tolerance, peace, and solidarity as the foundations for sustainable development within and across countries.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Emergent Leadership:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To recognize an individual, <\/span><b>forty years of age or younger<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, for outstanding work on issues of social change in his or her community, but whose leadership may not yet be broadly recognized outside of this community.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The category of Emergent Leadership was inaugurated in 2000 and is supported by a grant from the Ford Foundation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Starting in 2009, the Ramon Magsaysay Award is no longer being given in fixed Award categories, except for Emergent Leadership.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The winners are presented with a <\/span><b>certificate and a medallion<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with an embossed image of Ramon Magsaysay.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:\u00a0 <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/international\/magsaysay-honour-for-singapore-lawyer-bangladeshi-aid-giver-myanmar-activist\/article71412430.ece\/amp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ramon Magsaysay Award is Asia\u2019s premier prize and highest honor, celebrates greatness of spirit and transformative leadership in Asia.
