the Parbati-II hydropower project flooded areas near Rella village in Himachal Pradesh\u2019s Kullu district recently, damaging houses and agriculture fields and forcing residents to flee. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Parbati-II Hydroelectric Project<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>run-of-the-river project <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">under construction on the <\/span><b>Parbati River<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (major<\/span><b> tributary of the <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/about-beas-river\/\" target=\"_blank\">Beas <\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/about-beas-river\/\" target=\"_blank\">River<\/a><\/strong>), in the <\/span><b>Kullu District <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of <\/span><b>Himachal Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By constructing an 83.7 m high <\/span><b>concrete gravity dam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> near Pulga village in the Manikaran valley, the <\/span><b>flow of the Parbati River is diverted,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the water is being taken to Sainj Valley through a 31.56 km long headrace tunnel, where a powerhouse has been constructed at Siund village.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0The 31.56 km long HRT of the project is the <\/span><b>longest hydroelectric tunnel in India.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">water flow of Parbati is further increased by the mixing of water from five nalas coming along the head race tunnel.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Total Capacity: 800 MW<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (four units of 200 MW each)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once fully commissioned, it is expected to generate approx. 3,074 million units (MU) of electricity annually.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project is being <\/span><b>developed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and currently <\/span><b>owned by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Private Limited (NHPC). <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The company has a <\/span><b>stake of 100%.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Himachal Pradesh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will <\/span><b>get 12% free power <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from the project, and the additional 1% free power will be used for the Local Area Development Fund. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>News: <\/b><a
