{"id":3218,"date":"2025-10-24T04:22:59","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T22:52:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=3218"},"modified":"2025-10-28T15:53:48","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T10:23:48","slug":"what-is-a-payment-aggregator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-a-payment-aggregator\/","title":{"rendered":"What is a Payment Aggregator?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Payment Aggregator (PA):<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A PA (also known as a <strong>merchant aggregator<\/strong>) is a <strong>third-party service provider<\/strong> that allows <strong>merchants to accept payments from customers<\/strong> by integrating it into their websites or apps.<\/li>\n<li><strong>PAs enable their clients<\/strong> to accept <strong>various payment methods <\/strong>such as debit cards, credit cards, cardless EMIs, UPI, bank transfers, e-wallets, and e-mandates.<\/li>\n<li>PA provides a stack of multiple payment methods to merchants so that their <strong>customers can payusing<\/strong> their <strong>preferred mode<\/strong> of payment.<\/li>\n<li>Also, a payment aggregator <strong>does fund settlement<\/strong>, i.e., it moves the money from banks and other issuing entities to the merchants.<\/li>\n<li>Similarly, they <strong>also enable disbursing payments to various stakeholders<\/strong>, such as partners, employees, suppliers, and authorities.<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>allows merchants<\/strong> to<strong> accept bank transfers without <\/strong>setting up a <strong>bank-based merchant account.<\/strong> It means a merchant need not have a merchant account directly with the bank.<\/li>\n<li>A PA in India is <strong>incorporated under<\/strong> the <strong>Companies Act 2013.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A PA can be a <strong>bank or a non-bank entity<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Since a PA handles funds, it <strong>requires a license from<\/strong> the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/reserve-bank-of-india\/\" target=\"_blank\">RBI<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Only non-bank PAs require unique authorization from RBI<\/strong> as \u2018handling funds\u2019 is considered a part of the normal banking relationships for bank PAs.<\/li>\n<li>Examples: Amazon (Pay) India, Google India, Razorpay, Pine Labs, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is a Payment Gateway?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>software service<\/strong> that <strong>connects your bank account to<\/strong> the <strong>platform where you need to transfer your money.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It <strong>authorizes<\/strong> you to conduct <strong>an online transaction through<\/strong> different <strong>payment modes <\/strong>like net banking, credit card, debit card, UPI, or other online wallets.<\/li>\n<li>A Payment gateway plays the role of a third party that <strong>securely transfers<\/strong> your <strong>money from<\/strong> the bank account<strong> to the merchant\u2019s payment portal.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Payment Aggregator v\/s Payment Gateway:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A <strong>payment gateway is a software<\/strong> that <strong>allows online transactions<\/strong> to take place, while a <strong>payment aggregator<\/strong> is the <strong>inclusion of all <\/strong>these<strong> payment gateways<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>While a <strong>payment gateway is an intermediary<\/strong>, the <strong>payment aggregator is the interface <\/strong>where the payment gateway processes the transactions.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Most <strong>payment aggregators own payment gateways<\/strong> to offer various exclusive services to their merchant customers.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What Is a Merchant Account?<\/h3>\n<p>A merchant account is a business bank account created and used for business purposes where companies can make and accept payments. For example, a Merchant account enables a business to accept credit or debit card payments and facilitate payment deposits through multiple other payment methods.
