{"id":3242,"date":"2026-04-07T13:36:06","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T08:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=3242"},"modified":"2026-04-07T13:58:28","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T08:28:28","slug":"what-are-forever-chemicals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-are-forever-chemicals\/","title":{"rendered":"Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the European Union (EU) Parliament approved updated EU water pollution standards and added Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) into the pollutants list which needs to be monitored.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are toxic, <\/span><b>man-made, hazardous chemicals.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are also <\/span><b>known as<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>Forever Chemicals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, are a large chemical family of over 4,700<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are a <\/span><b>large family of fluorinated chemicals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that have partially or completely fluorinated carbon chains of varied lengths.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because the carbon-fluorine bond is one of the strongest, these chemicals <\/span><b>do not degrade easily in the environment.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Subgroups:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) and Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), and persistent organic pollutants (POPs).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These subgroups are currently listed under the <\/span><b>Stockholm Convention as industrial POPs.<\/b><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>How Are People Exposed to PFAS?<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are ingredients in various everyday products. For example, PFAS are used to keep food from sticking to packaging or cookware, make clothes and carpets resistant to stains<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PFAS are used in the <\/span><b>aerospace, automotive, construction<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and electronics industries.
