{"id":3306,"date":"2023-02-13T09:19:28","date_gmt":"2023-02-13T03:49:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=3306"},"modified":"2025-03-26T11:36:44","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T06:06:44","slug":"tansa-wildlife-sanctuary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/tansa-wildlife-sanctuary\/","title":{"rendered":"Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Location<\/strong>: It is located in the <strong>Thane District of Maharashtra<\/strong>, <strong>90 km<\/strong> northeast <strong>of Mumbai<\/strong> in the foothills of the <strong>Western Ghats.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is known to be a paradise <strong>for birdwatchers.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It has <strong>two rivers, the Tansa and Vaitarna<\/strong>, and the sanctuary gets its <strong>name from the forme<\/strong>r, which <strong>divides the sanctuary into two parts.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>sanctuary forms the catchment area of Tansa lake<\/strong>, along with the surrounding forests of Khardi, Vaitarna, Wada, and Shahapur ranges.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tansa reservoir<\/strong>, along with <strong>Vaitarna<\/strong> and Bhatsa reservoirs, is the <strong>major source of water<\/strong> for the cities of <strong>Mumbai and Thane.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Within Tansa Sanctuary is a <strong>fort at Mahuli, situated on a 762 m high hilltop.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Vegetation<\/strong>: The Sanctuary <strong>has Southern Tropical Moist Deciduous Forest<\/strong>, with a few patches of <strong>Evergreen forest.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Flora<\/strong>: It consists of trees like <strong>Kalamb, Bibla, Khair, Hed, Teak, and Bamboo<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>At least <strong>54 species of animals and 200 species of birds <\/strong>exist in the sanctuary.<\/li>\n<li>Major wild animals are <strong>Panther, Barking deer, Mouse deer, Hyena, Wild boar,<\/strong> etc.<\/li>\n<li>Two <strong>Critically Endangered Gyps species of vultures<\/strong>, the Vulnerable Pallas\u2019s Fish-Eagle Haliaeetus leucoryphus, is also seen here.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0Where is Mahuli fort located?<\/h3>\n<p>Mahuli Fort is located near Mahuli Village in Thane District of Maharashtra, India.
