{"id":3322,"date":"2023-02-26T12:54:35","date_gmt":"2023-02-26T07:24:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=3322"},"modified":"2025-03-26T11:42:51","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T06:12:51","slug":"what-is-mad-cow-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-mad-cow-disease\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Mad Cow disease?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Mad Cow disease:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is also known as bovine <strong>spongiform encephalopathy<\/strong> (BSE).<\/li>\n<li>It is a transmissible, slowly progressive, degenerative, and fatal disease which affects the central nervous system of adult cattle.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Causes: <\/strong>It is caused by a protein called a prion, which is normally found on cell surfaces, called a prion,\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>When this protein gets altered, it <strong>destroys the nervous system tissue<\/strong>&#8211; the brain and spinal cord.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Transmission:<\/strong> A cow gets BSE by eating feed contaminated with parts that came from another cow that was sick with BSE.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Symptoms:<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A common sign of BSE in cows is incoordination.
