{"id":3338,"date":"2023-02-13T09:53:31","date_gmt":"2023-02-13T04:23:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=3338"},"modified":"2025-03-26T11:48:47","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T06:18:47","slug":"who-are-mutual-fund-trustees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/who-are-mutual-fund-trustees\/","title":{"rendered":"Who are Mutual Fund Trustees?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Mutual Fund Trustees:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The trustees serve as <strong>an independent body to protect the interests of the investors<\/strong> and <strong>ensure compliance with the SEBI Mutual Fund regulations<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Powers and Functions:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The Board of trustees or trustee company <strong>holds the property of the mutual fund in trust<\/strong> for the benefit <strong>of the unit holders.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They <strong>appoint an Asset Management Company (AMC) to float schemes<\/strong> for the mutual fund and <strong>manage the funds<\/strong> mobilized <strong>under various schemes.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The trustee will <strong>set the responsibilities of the AMC<\/strong> and <strong>monitor any new scheme<\/strong> that is introduced.<\/li>\n<li>The trust also <strong>ensures that all the key personnel<\/strong> of a mutual fund is <strong>appointed with adequate qualifications<\/strong> and skills.<\/li>\n<li>It has the <strong>authority to request any information from the AMC<\/strong> pertaining to the operations of the fund.<\/li>\n<li>The trustee is also <strong>authorized to initiate action against the AMC<\/strong> or even <strong>penalize the AMC<\/strong> if SEBI regulations are not complied with or if the interests of the unit holders are not protected.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Structure<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Every <strong>mutual fund must have a minimum of 4 trustees<\/strong>, or they can appoint a <strong>trustee company<\/strong> with a minimum of 4 directors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Two-thirds of the trustees will have to be independent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Trustees <strong>cannot be appointed from within the same group<\/strong> to which the AMC belongs.<\/p>\n<h3>What is an Asset Management Company (AMC)?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The AMC is the <strong>investment manager of the trust.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It takes care of the <strong>day-to-day operation of the mutual fund<\/strong> and <strong>manages the investors&#8217; money<\/strong> as well.<\/li>\n<li>The AMC <strong>consists of the Chief Investment Officer, the fund managers and analysts<\/strong>, who are together responsible for managing the various schemes launched.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What are Mutual Funds?<\/h3>\n<p>A mutual fund is a financial vehicle that pools assets from shareholders to invest in securities like stocks, bonds, money market instruments, and other assets.
