or<\/li>\n<li>if its candidates polled <strong>at least 6% of total valid votes<\/strong> in any four or more states in the last Lok Sabha or Assembly elections and has at least four MPs in the last Lok Sabha polls; or<\/li>\n<li>if it has won <strong>at least 2%<\/strong> of the total seats in the Lok Sabha from not less than three states.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The BJP, Congress, CPI(M), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), National People\u2019s Party (NPP) and the AAP are the national parties now.<\/li>\n<li>The AAP satisfies the first criteria as it is recognised as a state party in <strong>Delhi, Punjab, Goa and Gujarat.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media\">\n<div data-oembed-url=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RlHpk0sS4xg\">\n<div><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RlHpk0sS4xg\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<h2><strong>Criteria for a Party to be Recognised as a State Party:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>To be recognised as a<strong> state party<\/strong>, a party need:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>at least 6% vote-share<\/strong> in the last Assembly election and have at least 2 MLAs; or<\/li>\n<li><strong>have 6% vote-share<\/strong> in the last Lok Sabha elections from that state and at least one MP from that state; or<\/li>\n<li><strong>at least 3% of the total number of seats<\/strong> or three seats, whichever is more, in the last Assembly elections; or<\/li>\n<li><strong>at least one MP for every 25 members <\/strong>or any fraction allotted to the state in the Lok Sabha; or<\/li>\n<li><strong>have at least 8% of the total valid votes<\/strong> in the last Assembly election or Lok Sabha election from the state.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>DMK in Tamil Nadu, BJD in Odisha, YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh, RJD in Bihar, TRS in Telangana are the names of some of the state political parties.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>What Benefits do Recognised Parties Enjoy under the Representation of the People Act 1951?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>If a party is recognised as a <strong>State Party<\/strong>, it is entitled for <strong>exclusive allotment of its reserved symbol to the candidates<\/strong> in the State in which it is so recognised.<\/li>\n<li>If a party is recognised as a <strong>National Party<\/strong>, it is entitled for <strong>exclusive allotment of its reserved symbol to the candidates<\/strong> throughout India.<\/li>\n<li>Recognised `State\u2019 and `National\u2019 parties <strong>need only one proposer<\/strong> for filing the nomination.<\/li>\n<li>They are also entitled for<strong> two sets of electoral rolls free of cost<\/strong> at the time of revision of rolls and their candidates get <strong>one copy of electoral roll free of cost <\/strong>during General Elections.<\/li>\n<li>Further, they get <strong>broadcast\/telecast facilities<\/strong> over Akashvani\/Doordarshan during general elections.<\/li>\n<li>A recognised National or State party can have a <strong>maximum of 40 \u201cStar campaigners\u201d<\/strong> and a registered unrecognised party can nominate a maximum of 20 \u201cStar Campaigners\u201d.\n<ul>\n<li>However, the <strong>travel expenses<\/strong> of star campaigners are not to be accounted for in the election expense accounts of candidates of their party.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1) How many political parties in India are currently recognised as the National party?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>At present 6 political parties &#8211;
