{"id":34431,"date":"2022-11-02T06:44:50","date_gmt":"2022-11-02T01:14:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=34431"},"modified":"2025-04-20T13:33:35","modified_gmt":"2025-04-20T08:03:35","slug":"modi-calls-for-road-map-to-develop-mangarh-dham-as-a-global-tribal-destination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/modi-calls-for-road-map-to-develop-mangarh-dham-as-a-global-tribal-destination\/","title":{"rendered":"Modi Calls for Road Map to Develop Mangarh Dham as a Global Tribal Destination"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>What\u2019s in today\u2019s article:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>About Mangarh Massacre (Historical background, Reasons, Bhil Tribe)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>News Summary<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for preparing a roadmap to develop Mangarh Dham in Rajasthan\u2019s Banswara district as a tribal destination with a prominent identity at the global level.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mangarh Dham<\/strong>, situated near the Rajasthan-Gujarat border, is known for massacre of tribals by the British Indian Army in 1913.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>About Mangarh Massacre:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>In\u00a0<strong>November 1913<\/strong>, soldiers of the British Indian Army fired indiscriminately on Bhil protesters who were demanding the<strong>\u00a0abolition of bonded labour<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Approximately 1,500 Bhil tribals and forest dwellers died in the incident which came to be known as the Mangarh massacre.<\/li>\n<li>The movement was led by\u00a0<strong>Guru Govindgiri<\/strong>\u00a0who raised a front against local rulers who were forcing the Bhils into unpaid labour, to pay heavy taxes and high rates of land revenue.<\/li>\n<li>According to the book &#8216;<strong>A History of Rajasthan<\/strong>&#8216;, Govindgiri&#8217;s representatives submitted a charter of demands and a list of grievances against the Rajput States after which the British called upon the Bhils to leave Mangarh Hill before November 15, 1913.<\/li>\n<li>When that didn&#8217;t happen, the princely kingdoms of nearby Dungarpur, Banswara and Sunth pressured the colonial government who then sent in the Mewar Bhil Corps to attack the Mangarh Hill.<\/li>\n<li>In 1952, an annual fair was instituted in Mangarh in memory of Guru Govindgiri and his disciples.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>About Bhil Tribe:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Bhils are considered as one of the oldest tribe in India.<\/li>\n<li>Once they were the ruler in parts of\u00a0<strong>Rajasthan<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Gujarat<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Malwa<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Madhya Pradesh<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Bihar<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>They are a cross section of great Munda race and a wild tribe of India.<\/li>\n<li>Bhils could be identified as one of the Dravidian racial tribe of Western India and belong to\u00a0<strong>Australoid<\/strong>\u00a0group of tribes.<\/li>\n<li>They speak a language of Dravidian origin.
