


{"id":34488,"date":"2022-11-04T01:06:08","date_gmt":"2022-11-03T19:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=34488"},"modified":"2025-04-20T14:17:55","modified_gmt":"2025-04-20T08:47:55","slug":"seven-states-ut-make-it-to-level-ii-in-pgi-2020-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/seven-states-ut-make-it-to-level-ii-in-pgi-2020-21\/","title":{"rendered":"Seven States\/ UT Make It to Level-Ii in Pgi 2020-21"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>What\u2019s in today\u2019s article:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>About PGI (Objective, Grading System, Benefits)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>PGI 2020-21 (Top Performers)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Recently, Union Ministry of Education released the national Performance Grading Index (PGI) of school education for 2020-21.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>About Performance Grading Index (PGI):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The PGI is an annual publication, released by the\u00a0<strong>Ministry of Education<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It assesses states\u2019 performance in school education based on data drawn from several sources including the \u2013\n<ul>\n<li>Unified District Information System for Education Plus,<\/li>\n<li>National Achievement Survey, and<\/li>\n<li>Mid-Day Meal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The prime objective of PGI is\u00a0to promote evidence-based policymaking and highlight course correction to ensure quality education for all.<\/li>\n<li>The Education Ministry released the first PGI in 2019 for the reference year 2017-18.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Grading System:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>States are scored on a\u00a0total of 1,000 points across 70 parameters, which are grouped under\u00a0<strong>five broad categories<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Access<\/strong>\u00a0(e.g., enrolment ratio, transition rate and retention rate);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Governance<\/strong>\u00a0process;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Infrastructure &amp; Facilities<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Equity<\/strong>\u00a0(difference in performance between scheduled caste students and general category students) and<\/li>\n<li><strong>Learning outcomes<\/strong>\u00a0(average score in mathematics, science, languages and social science).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What does the Grading system reflect?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The PGI grading system has\u00a0<strong>10 levels<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Level I indicates top-notch performance and a score between 951 and 1,000 points.<\/li>\n<li>Level II indicates a score between 901 and 950.<\/li>\n<li>The lowest is Level X, and it means a score between 0 and 550 points.<\/li>\n<li>The ultimate aim of PGI is to propel States and UTs towards undertaking multi-pronged interventions that will bring about the much-desired optimal education outcomes covering all dimensions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>About PGI 2020-21:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education recently released the Performance Grading Index (PGI) for States\/UTs for 2020-21.<\/li>\n<li>As per the report,\u00a0no state or union territory managed to attain the highest achievable grade of level I as a score above 950 was required.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Punjab<\/strong>\u00a0shared top honours with\u00a0<strong>Kerala<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Maharashtra<\/strong>\u00a0as all three states have scored 928 out of total of 1,000 points to make it to\u00a0<strong>Level II (901-950)<\/strong>\u00a0of the annual grading index.<\/li>\n<li>Apart from the above three states, four new states have been listed in Level II of the index for the first time.
