


{"id":34524,"date":"2022-11-25T02:49:05","date_gmt":"2022-11-24T21:19:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=34524"},"modified":"2025-04-20T14:37:55","modified_gmt":"2025-04-20T09:07:55","slug":"need-to-rewrite-history-to-free-it-from-distortions-says-shah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/need-to-rewrite-history-to-free-it-from-distortions-says-shah\/","title":{"rendered":"Need to Rewrite History to Free It From Distortions, Says Shah"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>What\u2019s in today\u2019s article:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>About Lachit Barphukan<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>News Summary\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why In News:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Speaking during the 400th birth anniversary of\u00a0<strong>Lachit Barphukan<\/strong>, the famed Ahom general and an icon of Assamese nationalism, the Union Home Minister emphasised the importance of rewriting India&#8217;s history to remove distortions.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Lachit Barphukan:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>About:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Lachit Barphukan (1622 &#8211; 1672) was a commander and Borphukan (one of the 5 patra mantris (councillors) in the Ahom Kingdom), in the\u00a0<strong>Ahom kingdom.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The Ahom kingdom was a late medieval kingdom in the Brahmaputra Valley in Assam.<\/li>\n<li>It maintained its sovereignty for nearly 600 years having successfully resisted Mughal expansion in Northeast India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>He is well known for his leadership in the\u00a0<strong>1671 Battle of Saraighat<\/strong>, which ended a prolonged attempt by Mughal forces to take over the Ahom kingdom, earning him the title \u2018<strong>Assam\u2019s Shivaji<\/strong>\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Battles of Alaboi and Saraighat:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Background:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Between 1615 and 1682, the Mughal Empire made a series of attempts,\u00a0<strong>under Jahangir and then Aurangzeb<\/strong>, to annex the Ahom kingdom.<\/li>\n<li>Between 1667 and 1682, the Ahoms under a series of rulers, starting with Chakradhwaj Singha, (reigned 1663-70) launched\u00a0<strong>a counter-offensive to reclaim lost territories.<\/strong>\u00a0This included the battles Lachit is remembered for.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>About the battles:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>In 1669,\u00a0<strong>Aurangzeb\u00a0<\/strong>dispatched the\u00a0<strong>Rajput Raja Ram Singh I<\/strong>\u00a0to recapture territories won back by the Ahoms.
