It was established in 1999.<\/li>\n<li>G20 was elevated to a forum of Heads of State\/Government in 2008 to effectively respond to the global financial crisis of 2008.<\/li>\n<li>G-20 is a forum,\u00a0not a legislative body. Its agreements and decisions have no legal impact, but they do influence countries&#8217; policies and global cooperation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Working of G20<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The G20 has no permanent secretariat. The agenda and work are coordinated by representatives of the G20 countries, known as \u2018Sherpas\u2019.\n<ul>\n<li>For India, ex-NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant is the current G20 Sherpa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The presidency of the G20 rotates every year among members, and the country holding the presidency, together with the previous and next presidency-holder, forms the \u2018Troika\u2019.\n<ul>\n<li>Troika ensures continuity of the G20 agenda.<\/li>\n<li>During India\u2019s presidency, India, Indonesia and Brazil will form the troika.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Significance of G20<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Carries significant weight<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>G20 members represent around 85% of global GDP, over 75% of global trade, and two-thirds of the world\u2019s population.<\/li>\n<li>G20 members contribute 79% of the world carbon emissions and hence this platform assumes significance in shaping the discussion on climate change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Promotes Multilateralism<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Since 2011, the G20 summit has been held annually, under a rotating presidency.<\/li>\n<li>The practice of rotating the chair gives all the members a chance to shape the global agenda.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>A number of overarching themes<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Initially, the G20 focused on broad macroeconomic policy, but has since expanded its ambit to include trade, sustainable development, energy, environment, climate change, anti-corruption etc.\n<ul>\n<li>Eg., 2021 summit decided to stop funding coal-fired power plants in poor countries by the end of 2021.<\/li>\n<li>It also committed to seek carbon neutrality \u201cby or around mid-century\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>2021 summit endorsed the Two-Pillar Solution to Address the Tax Challenges Arising from the Digitalisation of the Economy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>United Fight against COVID-19 Pandemic<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>In March 2020, G20 leaders pledged to inject $5 trillion into the global economy to reduce the economic impact of the coronavirus\u2002pandemic.<\/li>\n<li>In addition to this, they also agreed to contribute to WHO\u2019s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund on voluntary basis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>News Summary<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>PM Modi unveiled the logo, theme and website of India\u2019s G20 presidency.<\/li>\n<li>India will assume the presidency of the powerful G20 grouping from the current chair, Indonesia, on December 1, and hold the post for a year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Key Highlights:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com\/media\/editor_images\/2022\/11\/9\/10\/19\/30\/636b315abdc83905bebedabe_OI.PNG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The logo<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Earth juxtaposed with the lotus,<\/li>\n<li><strong>Theme<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 \u201cVasudhaiva Kutumba-kam\u201d or \u201cOne Earth One Family One Future\u201d\n<ul>\n<li>The logo reflects India\u2019s idea of VasudhaivaKutumbakam (the whole earth is a family), because of which India has always believed in global harmony.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Key highlights of the speech delivered by PM Modi<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>India\u2019s G20 presidency is coming at a time of crisis and chaos in the world.\n<ul>\n<li>The world is going through the after-effects of a disruptive once-in-a-century pandemic, conflicts and a lot of economic uncertainty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The symbol of the lotus in the G20 logo is a representation of hope in this time.<\/li>\n<li>Elaborating on the theme, PM Modi said India is working on the vision of bringing the whole world together for a common objective, for a better future.\n<ul>\n<li>It will be India\u2019s endeavour that there\u00a0should not be any first world or third world, but \u201c<strong>only one world<\/strong>\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>India, with its mantra of \u2018One Sun, One World, One Grid\u2019, has called for a renewable energy revolution in the world.<\/li>\n<li>India took up a campaign of \u2018One World, One Health\u2019 to strengthen global health.<\/li>\n<li>Now, in the G20 also, India\u2019s mantra is One Earth, One Family, One Future.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Indian G20 Presidency&#8217;s theme of &#8216;One Earth, One Family, One Future&#8217;
