


{"id":34752,"date":"2022-11-12T02:19:40","date_gmt":"2022-11-11T20:49:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=34752"},"modified":"2025-04-20T16:55:24","modified_gmt":"2025-04-20T11:25:24","slug":"per-capita-income-in-real-terms-grew-by-334-in-8-years-since-nfsa-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/per-capita-income-in-real-terms-grew-by-334-in-8-years-since-nfsa-govt\/","title":{"rendered":"Per Capita Income in Real Terms Grew by 33.4% In 8 Years Since Nfsa: Govt"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>What\u2019s in today\u2019s article:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>About the NFSA<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>News Summary<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The Union government has informed the Supreme Court that the per capita income of the Indian population has increased in real terms by 33.4% in the 8 years after the enactment of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013.<\/li>\n<li>This response comes in response to a SC order for a comprehensive survey of migrant labourers who faced great hardship and job loss during the first lockdown in 2020.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>\u00a0<strong>About the National Food Security Act (NFSA):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Objective:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The NFSA, 2013 was notified to provide for food and nutritional security, by ensuring access to adequate quantity of quality food at affordable prices to people to live a life with dignity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Salient features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It provides\u00a0<strong>a legal right<\/strong>\u00a0to persons belonging to \u201celigible households\u201d to receive food grains at subsidised price<strong>\/<\/strong>central issue prices under the under Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS).<\/li>\n<li>The percentage of population covered under TPDS in rural and urban areas shall be calculated on the basis of Census of India<strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>State governments are tasked with identifying Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY &#8211; poorest of the poor) and priority households (PHH) beneficiaries within the TPDS-covered population.<\/li>\n<li>Every person in the PHH category receives 5 kg of food grains per month at &#8211;\u00a0<strong>rice at Rs 3\/kg, wheat at Rs 2\/kg and coarse grain at Re 1\/kg.\u00a0<\/strong>Each\u00a0AAY household gets Rs 35 kg of food grains per month.<\/li>\n<li>The Act covers up to 75% of the rural population and up to 50% of the urban population for receiving subsidised food grains (overall\u00a0<strong>67<\/strong>% of the total population).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Special focus on the nutritional support to women and children<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Women:<\/strong>\u00a0It provides meals to pregnant women and lactating mothers during pregnancy and six months after the child birth.\n<ul>\n<li>Such women will also be entitled to receive maternity benefits of not less than\u00a0<strong>6,000.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Children:\u00a0<\/strong>Up to 14 years of age will be entitled to nutritious meals as per the prescribed nutritional standards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Food security allowance:<\/strong>\u00a0In case of non-supply of entitled food grains or meals, the beneficiaries will receive food security allowance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Grievance redressal mechanism:<\/strong>\u00a0The Act also contains provisions for setting up of grievance redressal mechanisms at the District and State levels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>News Summary\u00a0&#8211;
