


{"id":34808,"date":"2022-11-18T03:41:19","date_gmt":"2022-11-17T22:11:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=34808"},"modified":"2025-04-20T17:28:04","modified_gmt":"2025-04-20T11:58:04","slug":"at-eighth-spot-india-ranks-high-on-list-for-climate-protection-ccpi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/at-eighth-spot-india-ranks-high-on-list-for-climate-protection-ccpi\/","title":{"rendered":"At Eighth Spot, India Ranks High on List for Climate Protection: CCPI"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>What\u2019s in today\u2019s article:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>About CCPI<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Highlights of the CCPI 2023<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>India specific highlights in the CCPI 2023<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why In News:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Because of its low emissions and rising usage of renewable energy, India climbed two spots to\u00a0<strong>8th place out of 63 countries<\/strong>\u00a0in the recently released Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2023.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>About the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a\u00a0<strong>scoring system<\/strong>\u00a0designed by the\u00a0<strong>Germanwatch\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; a non-profit, non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in Bonn, Germany.<\/li>\n<li>It was first published in\u00a0<strong>2005\u00a0<\/strong>and an updated version is presented at the UN Climate Change Conference annually.<\/li>\n<li>The index aims to\u00a0<strong>improve transparency in international climate policy<\/strong>\u00a0by assessing and comparing the climate protection performance of 63 nations and the European Union (EU), which account for more than 90% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Highlights of the CCPI 2023:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com\/media\/editor_images\/2022\/11\/18\/12\/46\/39\/6377315745f9d205b8fee37d_OI.PNG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The rankings from Germanwatch, New Climate Institute and the Climate Action Network are based on\u00a0<strong>how well countries are doing in halving their emissions by 2030<\/strong>, which is critical to meeting the 1.5-degree Celsius target and avoiding disastrous climate change.<\/li>\n<li>The report leaves the<strong>\u00a0first three spots empty<\/strong>\u00a0because no country did well enough in all index categories to earn a very high overall grade.\u00a0<strong>Denmark<\/strong>\u00a0is ranked fourth, followed by Sweden and Chile.<\/li>\n<li><strong>China<\/strong>, the world&#8217;s leading polluter, dropped 13 spots to 51st in this year&#8217;s CCPI and received an overall very-low grade due to plans for new coal-fired power plants.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The US<\/strong>\u00a0climbed three places to 52nd place.
