


{"id":35846,"date":"2023-06-12T01:35:56","date_gmt":"2023-06-11T20:05:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=35846"},"modified":"2025-04-21T12:44:21","modified_gmt":"2025-04-21T07:14:21","slug":"responsible-ai-adopting-ai-into-audit-techniques-for-effectiveness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/responsible-ai-adopting-ai-into-audit-techniques-for-effectiveness\/","title":{"rendered":"Responsible AI: Adopting AI into audit techniques for effectiveness"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>What\u2019s in today\u2019s article?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Why in News?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>About SAI20<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The Second SAI20 Summit<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Need for Responsible AI<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Responsible AI Stands on 4 Pillars<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The Objectives of the Engagement Group of SAI20 on Responsible AI<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Highlights of the CAG\u2019s Address on Responsible AI<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why in News?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>As artificial intelligence (AI) is making \u201cgreater inroads\u201d into governance, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India said that Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) must prepare themselves for auditing AI-based governance systems.<\/li>\n<li>He was addressing the second SAI20 Summit of the SAI20 Engagement Group under the Indian Presidency of the G20.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>About SAI20:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The SAI20 Engagement Group of G20 was established during <strong>2022 <\/strong>during <strong>Indonesia\u2019s <\/strong>Presidency of the G20.<\/li>\n<li>The constitution of SAI20 stems from <strong>a recognition of the role of SAIs<\/strong> in promoting the good governance, efficiency, accountability, and transparency of public administration, and supporting SDG implementation.<\/li>\n<li>This mandate is achieved through <strong>engaging actively and effectively with the entire spectrum of stakeholders<\/strong>, from audited entities and governments to media and the civil society.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Second SAI20 Summit:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It began in <strong>Goa<\/strong> under India&#8217;s G20 Presidency and aligned with the main theme of the Indian Presidency of G20 which is `<strong>VasudhaivaKutumbakam` &#8211; the World as One Earth, One Family and One Future<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>According to the Indian CAG, the SAIs has a crucial role to play in the <strong>audit of Blue Economy and Responsible AI<\/strong> to optimise their positive impact on humankind.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Need for Responsible AI:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>AI refers to information-processing systems and technologies that <strong>integrate models and algorithms<\/strong> to learn and to perform <strong>cognitive tasks <\/strong>leading to outcomes such as <strong>prediction and decision-making<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Machine Learning <\/strong>(ML is based on the creation of algorithms) and<strong> Deep Learning <\/strong>[DL algorithms learn or improve themselves through layers of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs)] are two key techniques\/subsets of AI.<\/li>\n<li>The public sector entities have started using AI, especially ML algorithms, <strong>to improve the efficiency of public services delivery at lower costs.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>However, the <strong>significant risks associated<\/strong> [<strong>biased data <\/strong>used as inputs to an algorithm, inner workings (black-box nature) of the algorithms] with use of AI in delivery of public services also need to be carefully considered.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Responsible AI Stands on 4 Pillars:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Organisational democratisation<\/strong> that empowers and encourages individuals to raise concerns;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Systems that enable AI to flourish;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Systems and platforms that are <strong>trustworthy and explainable<\/strong> by design; and<\/li>\n<li>Articulation of responsible AI Mission that is anchored in <strong>organisational and ethical values.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Objectives of the Engagement Group of SAI20 on Responsible AI:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Governance issues<\/strong> &#8211; fairness, transparency, accountability, data privacy and security, human rights and safety &#8211; to be examined during the audit of AI systems.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Performance issues <\/strong>&#8211; economy in terms of reduced costs, efficiency in terms of productivity gains, effectiveness in terms of achievement of intended objectives &#8211; to be examined during the audit of AI systems.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Leveraging AI for more effective and efficient audit,<\/strong> through its use in different stages of the audit process.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mechanisms for capacity development and knowledge sharing<\/strong> across SAIs, related to audit in environments with extensive use of AI and for application of AI in audit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Highlights of the CAG\u2019s Address on Responsible AI:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The reality of AI has come a long way since the term was<strong> first coined in 1956 by John McCarty<\/strong> at a workshop held in Dartmouth.<\/li>\n<li>Today, there is a curiosity and belief that <strong>AI can help countries achieve development goals<\/strong>, impacting economic growth while simultaneously disrupting labour markets.<\/li>\n<li><strong>For example, ChatGPT <\/strong>compelled us to recognise it and also triggered the debate of its utility vis-\u00e0-vis its risks.<\/li>\n<li>Considering the power, possibility and perils of AI, <strong>it is essential that policy makers put in place processes<\/strong> to responsibly harness the potential of this technology.<\/li>\n<li>With AI making greater inroads into governance, <strong>SAIs must inevitably prepare themselves for auditing AI based governance systems<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Simultaneously, SAIs must look for opportunities<strong> to adopt AI into their audit techniques to increase their effectiveness.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The auditor must ensure that Al-based decisions <strong>do not result in exclusions, biases or violations of privacy.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The primary concern for the auditor is to<strong> ensure data accuracy, reliability and integrity, backed by an independent and robust system<\/strong> that periodically collects and collates data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1) What is ChatGPT?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI based on the company&#8217;s Generative Pre-trained Transformer series of large language models.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Q2) What is the blue economy?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>According to the World Bank, the blue economy is the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and jobs while preserving the health of the ocean ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Source:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/business\/economy\/look-for-ways-to-adopt-ai-into-audit-techniques-for-effectiveness-cag\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><u>Look for ways to adopt AI into audit techniques for effectiveness: CAG<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Responsible AI Stands on 4 Pillars &#8211;
