{"id":36263,"date":"2023-07-08T04:50:08","date_gmt":"2023-07-07T23:20:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=36263"},"modified":"2025-04-21T16:50:44","modified_gmt":"2025-04-21T11:20:44","slug":"performing-grade-index-chandigarh-punjab-top-performers-in-school-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/performing-grade-index-chandigarh-punjab-top-performers-in-school-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Performing Grade Index 2021-22"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>What\u2019s in today\u2019s article?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Why in News?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>India\u2019s School Education System<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>What is the Performance Grading Index (PGI) on School Education?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>PGI 2.0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Highlights of the PGI for the year 2021-22<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why in News?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>According to the Union Ministry of Education\u2019s Performing Grade Index (PGI), Chandigarh and Punjab emerged as the best performers in school education for the year 2021-22.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>India\u2019s School Education System:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Indian Education System is <strong>one of the largest in the world<\/strong> with more than 1.5 million schools, 8.5 million teachers and 250 million children from varied socio-economic backgrounds.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4)<\/strong> adopted by India in 2015 seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all by 2030.<\/li>\n<li>Such a goal will require <strong>proper assessment and monitoring of indicators<\/strong> set out in goals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is the Performance Grading Index (PGI) on School Education?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was designed by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, and launched in <strong>2017<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It helps States\/UTs<strong> to identify specific interventions<\/strong> required<strong> to make transformational changes in school education<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>PGI 2.0:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>In the last 4 years, <strong>States\/UTs reached saturation level in many indicators of PGI<\/strong>, and few indicators became redundant due to rapid changes adopted during COVID-19 period.<\/li>\n<li>Certain policy initiatives and interventions introduced post implementation of <strong>National Education Policy (NEP) 2020<\/strong> also necessitated for aligning indicators of PGI for proper tracking the progress.<\/li>\n<li>Therefore, indicators of PGI (70) have undergone transformational changes in 2021-22 and were renamed as PGI-2.0.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u25cf \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/yla8PoZXdKE_NzexN3AVwQ7NF4-Xtp2nXP4MwmS4B-Eut6kBAkhJSt4k1bmL3D2wNqzMTkOMjghpzaT2khwfoklHIlLyS4PkyRlAo3wNQa-3323ZSz-xwHwPHWnMWtaS2nP1Lx8jAnY1\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Highlights of the PGI for the year 2021-22:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/DLgBkmZfnwYK_2JLZG0WNLNz3w6p-Vb3H42GMc5vg2Izwg-GXCl31nRZMySd8faviSbwtJs0kcCAhwpp7npmYkHRK7scdbmVdaVo4PQ2sWCSHEssweozaZkLCECPgyOqS59JrOCjWsxO\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The two domains &#8211;
