<strong>Joint Declaration on Security Cooperation between Japan and India<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/li>\n<li>There are also various frameworks of security and defense dialogue between Japan and India including \u2013\n<ul>\n<li>Foreign and Defense Ministerial Meeting (\u201c2+2\u201d meeting),<\/li>\n<li>Annual Defense Ministerial Dialogue and<\/li>\n<li>Coast Guard-to-Coast Guard dialogue<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>In <strong>2020<\/strong>, both signed the Agreement Concerning Reciprocal Provision of Supplies and Services between the Self-Defense Forces of Japan and the Indian Armed Forces (so-called ACSA).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Economic Relations \u2013<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>India was the 18th largest trading partner for Japan, and <strong>Japan was the 13th largest trading partner for India in 2021<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Japan was the 5th largest investor for India in FY2021.<\/li>\n<li>Japan&#8217;s bilateral trade with India, totalled US$ 17.63 billion in FY 2018-19.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Economic Assistance \u2013<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>India has been the largest recipient of Japanese ODA Loan for the past decades.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Delhi Metro is one of the most successful examples of Japanese cooperation<\/strong> through the utilization of ODA.<\/li>\n<li>Besides, Japan and India had committed to build High-Speed Railway in India.<\/li>\n<li>Japan continues to cooperate in supporting strategic connectivity linking India to Southeast Asia through the synergy between <strong>&#8221;Act East&#8221; policy<\/strong> and <strong>&#8221;Partnership for Quality Infrastructure&#8221;<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Indian Diaspora in Japan: <\/strong>More than 40,000 Indians are residing in Japan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>News Summary<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>In his address to the <strong>two-day India-Japan Forum<\/strong> organised by the Ananta Centre and the Ministry of External Affairs, Mr. Jaishankar praised Japan for being an \u201c<strong>exemplar moderniser<\/strong>\u201d that is a role model for India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>He also credited Japan with several industrial \u201crevolutions\u201d in India<\/strong> including the introduction of the Maruti-Suzuki collaboration for a passenger car, Metro rail services in various Indian cities, etc.<\/li>\n<li>He added the both countries are already doing some cooperation in the security sphere, referring to <strong>India-Japan military and maritime exercises<\/strong> that included the first-ever joint fighter exercise in January this year.<\/li>\n<li>He was asked about what kind of \u201c<strong>wartime cooperation<\/strong>\u201d could be expected from India to Japan in case of a war in the Taiwan straits.<\/li>\n<li>He said that by strengthening \u201c<strong>peace, stability and security<\/strong>\u201d in the region, India and Japan could ensure that \u201cmany of the worst fears\u201d would not be realised.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1) Which countries participate in Malabar Exercise?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Malabar Exercise started off in 1992 as a bilateral naval exercise between Indian and US navies.
