


{"id":3714,"date":"2023-03-13T09:19:15","date_gmt":"2023-03-13T03:49:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=3714"},"modified":"2025-03-26T17:22:24","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T11:52:24","slug":"types-of-diabetes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/types-of-diabetes\/","title":{"rendered":"Types of Diabetes"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>What is Diabetes?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Diabetes is a <strong>chronic disease<\/strong> that <strong>occurs when the pancreas can no longer make insulin<\/strong>, or the <strong>body cannot make good use of the insulin<\/strong> <strong>it produces.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Insulin<\/strong> is a hormone that <strong>regulates blood glucose<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Not being able to produce or use insulin effectively <strong>leads to raised glucose levels<\/strong> in the blood, <strong>known as hyperglycaemia<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Over the long-term high glucose levels are <strong>associated with damage to the body<\/strong> and <strong>failure of various organs<\/strong> and tissues.<\/li>\n<li>Diabetes is a major <strong>cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks<\/strong>, stroke, and lower limb amputation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Types of Diabetes:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Type 1 diabetes:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a condition in which your <strong>immune system destroys insulin-making cells<\/strong> in your pancreas. These are <strong>called beta cells<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>When you have type 1 diabetes, <strong>your body produces very little or no insulin.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It <strong>requires daily administration of insulin<\/strong> to maintain blood glucose levels under control.<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>usually diagnosed in children and young people<\/strong>, so it used to be called <strong>juvenile diabetes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Symptoms<\/strong> include <strong>excessive excretion of urine<\/strong> (polyuria), <strong>thirst<\/strong> (polydipsia), <strong>constant hunger<\/strong>, <strong>weight loss<\/strong>, vision changes, and fatigue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Type 2 diabetes:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It results from the <strong>body\u2019s ineffective use of insulin that it produces.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>More than <strong>95% of people<\/strong> with diabetes <strong>have type 2 diabetes<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>This type of diabetes is largely the <strong>result of excess body weight<\/strong> and <strong>physical inactivity.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Symptoms may be similar to those<\/strong> of type 1 diabetes <strong>but are often less marked<\/strong>. As a result, the disease may be diagnosed several years after onset.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gestational diabetes (GDM):<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a type of diabetes that <strong>consists of high blood glucose during pregnancy<\/strong> and is associated with <strong>complications for both mother and child.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>GDM <strong>usually disappears after pregnancy<\/strong>, but women affected, and their children are at <strong>increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is Glucose?<\/h3>\n<p>Glucose is the main type of sugar in the blood and is the major source of energy for the body&#8217;s cells. Glucose comes from the foods we eat or the body can make it from other substances. Glucose is carried to the cells through the bloodstream.
