


{"id":37346,"date":"2023-09-18T09:28:38","date_gmt":"2023-09-18T03:58:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=37346"},"modified":"2025-04-22T13:20:34","modified_gmt":"2025-04-22T07:50:34","slug":"vishwakarma-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/vishwakarma-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"PM Modi launches Vishwakarma Scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>What\u2019s in today\u2019s article?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>What is PM Vishwakarma scheme?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>What was the need of PM Vishwakarma scheme?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM Vishwakarma scheme in New Delhi on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti.\n<ul>\n<li>Vishwakarma, in Hindu mythology, is seen as the architect of the gods and was the divine carpenter and master craftsman.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The scheme will provide government support to workers engaged in traditional crafts and skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is PM Vishwakarma scheme?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Background<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>This scheme was first announced by PM Modi during his Independence Day speech.<\/li>\n<li>The scheme is also being seen as a means for the government to reach out to the <u>economically marginalised and socially backward communities<\/u> \u2013 particularly the Other Backward Classes (OBC) groups.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>About<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a new scheme with an outlay of Rs 13,000 crore and is fully funded by the Central government.<\/li>\n<li>It aims to provide <u>subsidised loans of <\/u><strong><u>up to<\/u><\/strong><u> Rs 2 lakh to traditional artisans and craftsmen <\/u>including weavers, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, laundry workers, and barbers.<\/li>\n<li>The scheme also aims at improving the <strong>quality,<\/strong> as well as the <u>reach of products and services of artisans and craftsmen<\/u>.<\/li>\n<li>This scheme will ensure that Vishwakarmas are integrated with the domestic and global value chains.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nodal Ministry<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ministry of Micro, Small &amp; Medium Enterprise<\/strong> (MSME) is the nodal ministry.<\/li>\n<li>The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, would provide active support for <u>implementation<\/u> of the scheme for the wellbeing of the Vishwakarmas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eligibility&amp; coverage<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is available for <u>rural and urban artisans<\/u> and craftsmen across India.<\/li>\n<li>However, a detailed list was produced to clarify the beneficiary under the scheme.<\/li>\n<li>This list included <strong>18 traditional crafts<\/strong> such as Boat Maker; Armourer; Blacksmith; Hammer and Tool Kit Maker; etc.<\/li>\n<li>Five lakh families will be covered in the first year and 30 lakh families over five years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Benefits under the scheme<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The Vishwakarma workers will be registered for <strong>free <\/strong>through Common Services Centres (CSC) using the biometric-based PM Vishwakarma portal.<\/li>\n<li>They will then be provided recognition through the <u>PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card<\/u>.<\/li>\n<li>They will be given:\n<ul>\n<li>skill upgradation involving basic and advanced training,<\/li>\n<li>a toolkit incentive of \u20b915,000,<\/li>\n<li>collateral-free credit support up to \u20b91 lakh (first tranche) and \u20b92 lakh (second tranche) at a concessional interest rate of 5%,<\/li>\n<li>incentive for digital transactions and marketing support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>A toolkit booklet has also been released in 12 Indian languages, with accompanying video elements.\n<ul>\n<li>This will aid the knowledge of workers on new technologies in their field.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Skilling programme will take place at both basic and advanced types.<\/li>\n<li>Participants will <u>get a stipend of \u20b9500 per day while undergoing training<\/u>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What was the need of PM Vishwakarma scheme?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The professionals engaged in traditional crafts and skills for centuries are often taught by elders in the family and have faced certain problems.<\/li>\n<li>These include a <u>lack of professional training for their work, of modern tools, the issue of distance from the markets relevant to them and the availability of little capital for investment<\/u>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1)\u00a0What are traditional crafts?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Traditional crafts are items made using traditional methods.
