text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sultanpur National Park, <\/span><b>formerly <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">known as <\/span><b>Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is located in the <\/span><b>Gurgaon district in Haryana<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 46 km from Delhi.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spanning 1.42 sq.km., it consists primarily of <\/span><b>marshy lakes and floodplains.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It includes a <\/span><b>core area<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of 1.21 sq. km containing the main <\/span><b>Sultanpur Lake\/Jheel.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sultanpur Jheel is a <\/span><b>seasonal freshwater wetland <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with fluctuating water levels throughout the year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This shallow lake is mostly<\/span><b> fed by waters from River Yamuna\u2019s Gurgaon canal <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the overflowing waters of the neighboring agricultural lands.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>gained national attention<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the late <\/span><b>1960s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">due to the <\/span><b>conservation efforts of ornithologists Peter Michel Jackson and Dr. Salim Ali, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who frequently visited the site for birding.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was recognised as a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ramsar-sites-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Ramsar site <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has been identified as an I<\/span><b>mportant Bird Area by BirdLife International.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Flora<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The vegetation of this park is <\/span><b>tropical and dry deciduous,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the flora includes <\/span><b>grasses, dhok, khair, tendu, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ber, jamun, banyan tree, neem, berberis, Acacia nilotica, and Acacia tortilis.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Fauna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over 320 bird species have been recorded at Sultanpur, making it a vital wintering ground.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It forms a part of the <\/span><b>\u2018Central Asian Migratory Flyway\u2019 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and thousands of <\/span><b>migratory birds from<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the countries of <\/span><b>Russia, Turkey, Afghanistan,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Europe <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">visit the park during the winter months.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><b>Winter Migrants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><b>Greater Flamingos, Northern Pintails,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Eurasian Wigeons, Common Teals, and <\/span><b>Bar-headed Geese.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><b>Resident Birds:<\/b> <b>Indian Peafowl, Red-wattled Lapwings<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Cattle Egrets, and White-throated Kingfishers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><b>Rare\/Threatened Species<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: S<\/span><b>arus Crane, Black-necked Stork,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Indian Courser<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have been recorded here.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
