{"id":3910,"date":"2023-03-07T08:50:31","date_gmt":"2023-03-07T03:20:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=3910"},"modified":"2025-03-26T20:28:42","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T14:58:42","slug":"national-platform-for-disaster-risk-reduction-npdrr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-platform-for-disaster-risk-reduction-npdrr\/","title":{"rendered":"National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was <strong>established by the Indian government in 2013 <\/strong>to bring together all segments of the disaster risk community in India, including government officials, parliamentarians, mayors, the media, international agencies, non-governmental organisations, representatives from local communities, scientific and academic institutions, and corporate businesses, among others.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The theme of this year\u2019s session:<\/strong> \u201cBuilding Local Resilience in a Changing Climate<\/li>\n<li><strong>Functions:<\/strong> It facilitates the exchange of experiences, views, and ideas, presents the results of research and action, and explores the possibility of cooperating across continents.<\/li>\n<li>As a result of this platform, National Action Plans on Disaster Risk Reduction will have a strategic direction and an action plan.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Organisational Structure:<\/strong> The Union Home Minister chairs the NPDRR, which is also headed by the Minister of State in charge of Disaster Management in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Vice-Chairman of, the National Disaster Management Authority.<\/li>\n<li>In the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Special Secretary\/Additional Secretary\/Joint Secretary responsible for the Disaster Management Division acts as the convener of NPDRR.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1)\u00a0What is a disaster?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Disasters are serious disruptions to the functioning of a community that exceeds its capacity to cope using its resources.
