As a result, Pakistan has recalled its ambassador and expelled the Iranian envoy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Sistan-Baluchestan<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>About\n<ul>\n<li>Iran\u2019s Baluch minority numbers between one and four million people, based mainly in the southeastern region of Sistan-Baluchestan.<\/li>\n<li>The region is poor and underdeveloped.<\/li>\n<li>Made up of rugged, mountainous terrain, it has become a haven for heroin and opium-smuggling from across the border with neighbouring Pakistan and Afghanistan.<\/li>\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com\/media\/editor_images\/2024\/1\/18\/11\/20\/21\/65a8bc1df63ba505b24402e4_OI.PNG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Demography\n<ul>\n<li>The Baluchs who live there are mostly Sunni Muslims and identify themselves as part of an ancient tradition separate from that of Iran\u2019s Persian ethnicity.\n<ul>\n<li>The majority of Iran\u2019s population are Shia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>They identify themselves closely with the Baluch populations across the border in Pakistan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Jaish al-Adl<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>About\n<ul>\n<li>Jaish al-Adl, literally the \u201cArmy of Justice\u201d, are a Sunni Salafist militant group with bases in Pakistan\u2019s Balochistan province.<\/li>\n<li>These militants are active in the mountainous border regions of Pakistan and Iran.<\/li>\n<li>It was founded in 2012, and Iranian officials believe it largely operates in Pakistan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Group is fighting for\n<ul>\n<li>Militants of this group assert that they are fighting to gain independence for the Sistan and Baluchestan province, also known as Asli Balouchestan.<\/li>\n<li>This province is located in the <u>southeast of Iran, sharing borders with Pakistan&#8217;s Balochistan province and the Indian Ocean<\/u>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Past attacks\n<ul>\n<li>The group has allegedly been involved in a series of violent attacks in Iran, and has claimed bombings and kidnapped members of Iran\u2019s border police.<\/li>\n<li>In December, suspected Jaish al-Adl members killed 11 people and wounded eight others in a night time attack on a police station in southeastern Iran.<\/li>\n<li>In 2019, Jaish al-Adl claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing targeting a bus that killed 27 members of Iran\u2019s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard.<\/li>\n<li>Iran has suspected that Sunni-majority Pakistan is hosting insurgents, possibly at the behest of its regional archrival Saudi Arabia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>News Summary: Iran strikes militant group Jaish al-Adl bases in Pakistan<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>As per media reports, the attack took place near Panjgur in southwest Balochistan.\n<ul>\n<li>Earlier, Iran said that two bases belonging to Jaish al-Adl militants in Balochistan province were destroyed.<\/li>\n<li>This development is significant as it comes amid an <u>escalating Middle East crisis led by the war in Gaza<\/u>.\n<ul>\n<li>Iran\u2019s attack on Pakistan came less than a day after Iranian strikes on northern Iraq that killed several civilians.<\/li>\n<li>Iraq recalled its ambassador from Tehran for consultations and summoned Iran\u2019s ambassador in Baghdad in protest.<\/li>\n<li>Iran separately struck Syria as well.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>India\u2019s stand on Iran&#8217;s missile strikes in Pakistan<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Zero tolerance towards terrorism\n<ul>\n<li>This is a matter between Iran and Pakistan.<\/li>\n<li>However, as far as India is concerned, it follows an uncompromising position of zero tolerance towards terrorism.<\/li>\n<li><u>India supports actions that countries take in their self-defence<\/u>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>India silent on Iran\u2019s strikes against Kurdish areas in Iraq, as well as in Syria\n<ul>\n<li>Significantly, the MEA did not comment on Iran\u2019s strikes against Kurdish areas in Iraq, as well as in Syria, all of which took place recently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>India&#8217;s position on terrorism\u00a0<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Zero tolerance:\u00a0India has an uncompromising position of zero tolerance towards terrorism.<\/li>\n<li>Self-defence:\u00a0India understands actions that countries take in their self-defence.
