{"id":4030,"date":"2023-01-27T05:57:58","date_gmt":"2023-01-27T00:27:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=4030"},"modified":"2025-03-26T21:12:08","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T15:42:08","slug":"green-india-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/green-india-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"Green India Mission"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Green India Mission:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>National Mission for a Green India (GIM) is one of the eight Missions<\/strong> under the <strong>National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>GIM was <strong>launched <\/strong>in the year <strong>2014 <\/strong>as a <strong>Centrally Sponsored Scheme<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim<\/strong>: To <strong>respond to climate change<\/strong> by a combination of <strong>adaptation and mitigation<\/strong> measures, which <strong>would help<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<li><strong>enhance carbon sinks<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>adaptation <\/strong>of vulnerable species\/ecosystems<strong> to the changing climate<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>adaptation of forest-dependant communities<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Objectives<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<li><strong>Increased forest\/tree cover on 5 million hectares (mha) of forest\/non-forest lands<\/strong> and improved <strong>quality of forest cover on another 5 mha<\/strong> (a total of 10 mha).\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>I<strong>mproved ecosystem services<\/strong> including biodiversity, hydrological services and carbon sequestration <strong>as a result of treatment of 10 mha.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Increased forest-based livelihood income of about 3 million households<\/strong> living in and around the forests.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Enhanced annual CO2 sequestration by 50 to 60 million tonnes <\/strong>in the year 2020.<\/li>\n<li>The Mission has <strong>clear targets for different forest types<\/strong> and ecosystems.<\/li>\n<li>Activities under Green India Mission will be <strong>implemented under convergence with<\/strong> Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (<strong>MGNREGA<\/strong>), Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (<strong>CAMPA<\/strong>) and the National Afforestation Programme<i> (<\/i><strong>NAP<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>What are the missions under National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC)?<\/h3>\n<p>The National Action Plan on Climate change was formally launched on June 30th, 2008.
