{"id":4030,"date":"2026-08-16T14:57:58","date_gmt":"2026-08-16T09:27:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=4030"},"modified":"2026-08-16T17:42:55","modified_gmt":"2026-08-16T12:12:55","slug":"green-india-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/green-india-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"Green India Mission"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Green India Mission Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) have flagged major shortcomings in the implementation of the Green India Mission (GIM).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Green India Mission<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was launched in the year<\/span><b> 2014 as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is one of the eight Missions under the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-action-plan-on-climate-change\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC)<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It aims at <\/span><b>protecting, restoring and enhancing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> India\u2019s <\/span><b>forest cover<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and responding to climate change through adaptation and mitigation measures.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Objectives:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Its objectives include <\/span><b>improving ecosystem services<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as biodiversity, water and carbon sequestration, as well as <\/span><b>increasing means of forest-based livelihood.<\/b><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Targets<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The mission envisages increasing forest and <\/span><b>tree cover over 5 million hectares<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and improving the quality of forest\/tree cover <\/span><b>over another 5 million hectares.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enhanced annual CO2 sequestration by 50 to 60 million tonnes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Revised Targets:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> India has committed to creating an additional carbon <\/span><b>sink of 2.5-3 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent by 2030<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through additional forest and tree cover.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Nodal Ministry:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/cag-audit-flags-major-gaps-in-green-india-mission-implementation\/article71346191.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Green India Mission is a NAPCC mission launched in 2014 to protect, restore and enhance India\u2019s forest cover and ecosystem services.
