These included:\n<ul>\n<li>A <strong>three-tier security grid<\/strong> the Indian Navy, the coast guard, and the marine police;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Increased electronic surveillance<\/strong> using Coastal radar chain, Automatic identification system (AIS), Vessel traffic management and information system<\/li>\n<li>Establishment the National Command Control Communication and Intelligence (NC3I) Network;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sagar Prahari Bal<\/strong> for force security protecting of naval bases has been raised by Navy;<\/li>\n<li>Establishment of<strong> Information Fusion Centre \u2013 Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Associated Issues in maintaining maritime security<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>There are no formal or commonly accepted definitions of concepts like \u2018maritime security\u2019, \u2018coastal security\u2019 and \u2018coastal defence\u2019. Sometimes, it leads to vagueness.<\/li>\n<li>Multiple institutions are involved and there is lack of coordination.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Turf war<\/strong> between MHA and Ministry of Defence (MoD). Demands are being made to bring Coast Guard under the control of MHA.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Fishermen are considered as the eyes and ears for coastal security. However, discontent among fishermen community, involvement of politics in fishermen issues etc. are further complicating the security architecture.<\/li>\n<li>Inadequate infrastructure, acute shortage of manpower is posing challenges in providing maritime security in India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is Indian Coast Guard (ICG)?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>About<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The ICG is a maritime armed force and search and rescue agency that protects India&#8217;s maritime and national interests.<\/li>\n<li>It was established in February 1977 by the Coast Guard Act of the Parliament of India and operates under the Ministry of Defence.<\/li>\n<li><strong>ICG&#8217;s missions include<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Protecting artificial islands, offshore terminals, and other installations<\/li>\n<li>Protecting and assisting fishermen and mariners at sea<\/li>\n<li>Pollution control<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Q.1.
