Their total mass can reach several million solar masses.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Molecular clouds with dimensions of more than about 15 light years are also called <\/span><b>giant molecular clouds.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The complex interplay between three key forces, namely <\/span><b>gravity, magnetic fields, and turbulence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, determines how these clouds collapse to form stars.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The central regions of these clouds are <\/span><b>completely hidden from view by dust<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are the raw material of stars and planets.
