{"id":4101,"date":"2023-03-14T03:35:11","date_gmt":"2023-03-13T22:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=4101"},"modified":"2025-03-26T21:37:26","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T16:07:26","slug":"what-is-doha-political-declaration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-doha-political-declaration\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Doha Political Declaration?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Doha Political Declaration:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>key outcome of the second part of the LDC5 conference<\/strong> held under the <strong>theme \u201cFrom Potential to Prosperity\u201d in Qatar.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The declaration <strong>welcomed the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA)<\/strong>\u00a0 and strongly <strong>committed to its implementation<\/strong> throughout the coming decade.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The declaration also <strong>requested the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General<\/strong> to ensure the <strong>full mobilization and coordination<\/strong> of all parts of the UN system to facilitate coordinated implementation <strong>of the Doha Programme of Action<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What is the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA)?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>DPoA for the Least Developed Countries<\/strong> was <strong>adopted<\/strong> <strong>at the first part of the<\/strong> <strong>LDC5<\/strong> <strong>conference<\/strong> held in <strong>New York<\/strong> in <strong>2022.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is a <strong>10-year plan<\/strong> to <strong>put the world\u2019s 46 most vulnerable countries back on track<\/strong> <strong>to<\/strong> <strong>achieving<\/strong> the UN-mandated <strong>Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>DPoA (2022-2031) consisted of <strong>six key focus areas<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>eradicating poverty;<\/li>\n<li>leveraging the potential of science and technology;<\/li>\n<li>addressing climate change;<\/li>\n<li>environmental degradation;<\/li>\n<li>recovering from COVID-19 pandemic;<\/li>\n<li>building resilience against future shocks\u202ffor risk-informed sustainable development;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Least developed countries (LDCs):<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>They are <strong>low-income countries<\/strong> confronting severe structural impediments to sustainable development.<\/li>\n<li>They are highly <strong>vulnerable to economic and environmental shocks<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>There are currently <strong>46 countries on the list<\/strong> of LDCs which is <strong>reviewed every three years<\/strong> by the <strong>Committee for Development Policy (CDP<\/strong>) of the UN.<\/li>\n<li>LDCs have <strong>exclusive access to<\/strong> <strong>certain international support measures<\/strong>, particularly in the areas of development assistance and trade.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What are Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)?<\/h3>\n<p>The Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice. In 2015, all the countries in the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
