{"id":4109,"date":"2023-03-14T01:15:06","date_gmt":"2023-03-13T19:45:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=4109"},"modified":"2025-03-26T21:40:16","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T16:10:16","slug":"what-is-the-black-sea-grain-initiative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-the-black-sea-grain-initiative\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the Black Sea Grain Initiative?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Black Sea Grain Initiative:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was set up to <strong>resume vital food and fertilizer exports from Ukraine<\/strong> to the rest of the world.<\/li>\n<li>It was <strong>brokered between Russia and Ukraine by the United Nations and Turkey<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The Initiative allowed <strong>exports of grain, other foodstuffs, and fertilizer<\/strong>, including ammonia, to resume <strong>through a safe maritime humanitarian corridor<\/strong> from three key <strong>Ukrainian ports: Chornomorsk, Odesa, and Yuzhny\/Pivdennyi<\/strong>, to the rest of the world.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Joint Coordination Centre (JCC):<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>A\u00a0 JCC was established <strong>to monitor the implementation of the Initiative<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>JCC Centre is <strong>hosted in Istanbul<\/strong> and includes <strong>representatives from Russia, T\u00fcrkiye, Ukraine, and the United Nations.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>UN acts as the Secretariat for the Centre<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Procedure:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Vessels wishing to participate<\/strong> in the Initiative will <strong>undergo inspection<\/strong> <strong>off<\/strong> <strong>Istanbul<\/strong> to ensure they are empty of cargo.<\/li>\n<li><strong>They then sail<\/strong> through the maritime humanitarian corridor <strong>to Ukrainian ports<\/strong> <strong>to load.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The corridor is <strong>monitored 24\/7<\/strong> to ensure the safe passage of vessels.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vessels on the<\/strong> <strong>return journey will also be inspected<\/strong> at the inspection area off Istanbul.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Key Facts about Black Sea:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an <strong>inland sea between Eastern Europe and Western Asia<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>bound by Ukraine to the north<\/strong> and northwest, <strong>Russia and Georgia to the east<\/strong>, <strong>Turkey to the south<\/strong>, and <strong>Bulgaria and Romania to the west.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It links to the <strong>Sea of Marmara through the Strait of Bosphorus<\/strong> and then to the <strong>Aegean through the Strait of Dardanelles.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0Where is the Bosphorus Strait?<\/h3>\n<p>Bosphorus strait is a natural strait located in northwestern Turkey, connecting the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara. Also known as the Strait of Istanbul, it links the European part of the city with its Asian part and thus remains a strategic waterway in the region.
