{"id":4190,"date":"2023-03-12T06:28:40","date_gmt":"2023-03-12T00:58:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=4190"},"modified":"2025-03-26T22:24:50","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T16:54:50","slug":"mount-merapi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/mount-merapi\/","title":{"rendered":"Mount Merapi"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Mount Merapi:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Mount Merapi (<strong>Mountain of Fire<\/strong>) is one of the world&#8217;s most active volcanos located in <strong>Indonesia.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It rises to 9,551 feet and has steep slopes with dense vegetation on its lower flanks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Why do more volcanoes occur in Indonesia?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Indonesia is located on <strong>the Ring of Fire,<\/strong> a vast area around the Pacific Ocean.<\/li>\n<li>It consists of over 17,000 islands and islets \u2014 and nearly 130 active volcanoes.<\/li>\n<li>The Ring of Fire also referred to as the <strong>Circum-Pacific Belt<\/strong>, is a path along the Pacific Ocean characterized by active volcanoes and frequent earthquakes.<\/li>\n<li>The abundance of volcanoes and earthquakes along the Ring of Fire is caused by the amount of <strong>movement of tectonic plates in the area<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Along much of the Ring of Fire, plates overlap at convergent boundaries <strong>called subduction zones.<\/strong> That is, the plate that is underneath is pushed down, or subducted, by the plate above. As rock is subducted, it melts and becomes magma.<\/li>\n<li>The abundance of magma so near to Earth\u2019s surface gives rise to conditions ripe for volcanic activity.<\/li>\n<li>A significant exception is a border between the Pacific and North American Plates. This stretch of the Ring of Fire is a <strong>transform boundary<\/strong>, where plates move sideways past one another.<\/li>\n<li>This type of boundary generates a large number of earthquakes as tension in Earth\u2019s crust builds up and is released<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1) What is Volcano?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>.A volcano is an opening in the earth\u2019s crust through which lava, volcanic ash, and gases escape. Beneath a volcano, liquid magma containing dissolved gases rises through cracks in the Earth\u2019s crust.
