{"id":42175,"date":"2025-04-19T17:38:09","date_gmt":"2025-04-19T12:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=42175"},"modified":"2025-05-28T12:18:34","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T06:48:34","slug":"root-rot-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/root-rot-disease\/","title":{"rendered":"Root Rot Disease, Treatment, Cause, Prevention, Latest News"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Root Rot Disease Latest News<\/h2>\n<p>Farmers cultivating &#8216;pichi poo&#8217; (red jasmine) in Tiruchy, Tamil Nadu, say they are staring at huge losses as the crop has been hit by a fungal infection that causes root decay.<\/p>\n<h2>About Root Rot Disease<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Root rots, as the name suggests,\u00a0<strong>attack plants from the ground via their roots.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This can<strong>\u00a0lead to wilting and plant death.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>These rots may also\u00a0<strong>affect the trunk and stems,\u00a0<\/strong>causing splits or rots above ground.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Rots may<strong>\u00a0also affect young plants\u00a0<\/strong>such as seedlings.<\/li>\n<li>There are\u00a0<strong>two causes<\/strong>\u00a0of root rot:\u00a0<strong>overwatering\u00a0<\/strong>and\/or the\u00a0<strong>presence of fungal-like pathogens.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Overwatering depletes oxygen<\/strong>\u00a0in the soil, and this\u00a0<strong>causes the roots to stop functioning<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>become softened, and die.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Pathogens\u00a0<\/strong>can\u00a0<strong>also invade plants<\/strong>\u00a0that are affected by inconsistent or overwatering. The range of pathogens that cause root rots affects many different plants.<\/li>\n<li>It is\u00a0<strong>caused by numerous fungi,\u00a0<\/strong>especially Armillaria mellea, Clitocybe tabescens, and Fusarium, and many oomycetes, including Pythium, Phytophthora, and Aphanomyces.<\/li>\n<li>If a\u00a0<strong>root-rot pathogen<\/strong>\u00a0is present,it may\u00a0<strong>spread through the soil<\/strong>, carried\u00a0<strong>by soil water,to affect nearby plants.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Prevention:\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Control measures<\/strong>\u00a0include\u00a0<strong>planting in well-drained soils,\u00a0<\/strong>including\u00a0<strong>raised beds,<\/strong>\u00a0planting\u00a0<strong>resistant varieties<\/strong>\u00a0(such as plants grafted onto resistant rootstock), or selecting plants that naturally cope well with wet or heavy clay soil.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Where root rot occurs, remove affected plants<\/strong>.
