


{"id":4282,"date":"2023-03-14T02:34:24","date_gmt":"2023-03-13T21:04:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=4282"},"modified":"2025-03-26T23:06:33","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T17:36:33","slug":"dragon-fruit-kamalam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/dragon-fruit-kamalam\/","title":{"rendered":"Dragon Fruit (Kamalam)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Dragon Fruit:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Dragon Fruit is <strong>a herbaceous perennial climbing<\/strong> cactus widely known as Pitaya, has its origin in Southern Mexico, Central America and South America.<\/li>\n<li>Its flowers are <strong>hermaphrodites<\/strong> (male and female organs in the same flower) in nature and open at night.<\/li>\n<li>It grows in <strong>all kinds of soil and does not require much water<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The plant sustains yield for more than 20 years, is high in <strong>nutraceutical properties<\/strong> (medicinal effects) and good for value-added processing industries.<\/li>\n<li>It is widely <strong>cultivated<\/strong> in <strong>South-East Asia, India, the USA, The Caribbean Islands, and Australia<\/strong> throughout the tropical and sub-tropical world.<\/li>\n<li>The world\u2019s <strong>largest producer and exporter of dragon fruit is Vietnam<\/strong>, where the plant was brought by the French in the 19th century.<\/li>\n<li>In India, the cultivation of Kamalam Fruit is done in <strong>Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal<\/strong>, Andhra Pradesh, Andaman &amp; Nicobar Islands<strong>, Mizoram and Nagaland<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In this endeavor under the <strong>Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture<\/strong> (MIDH), a roadmap is being prepared for the cultivation of this crop.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Key facts about the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) Mission<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>Centrally Sponsored Scheme<\/strong> for the holistic <strong>growth of the horticulture sector<\/strong> covering fruits, vegetables, root &amp;
