text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AERB stands as <\/span><b>India&#8217;s premier regulatory authority for nuclear and radiation safet<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">y.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The AERB was constituted on November 15, 1983, by the President of India by exercising the powers conferred by the<\/span><b> Atomic Energy Act, 1962<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to carry out certain regulatory and safety functions under the Act.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> regulatory authority of AERB is derived from<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the rules and notifications promulgated under the <\/span><b>Atomic Energy Act and the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Mission <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the AERB is to <\/span><b>ensure the use of ionizing radiation and nuclear energy in India does not cause undue risk <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to the health of people and the environment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The AERB shall have <\/span><b>authority to administer the provisions of the Factories Act, 1948, the industrial safety for the units of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as per Section 23 of the Atomic Energy Act,1962.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its <\/span><b>headquarters <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is situated in <\/span><b>Mumbai<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Members<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Board <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">comprises<\/span><b> six member<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s of which <\/span><b>two are whole time members including the chairman.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> other whole-time member is the executive director <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the <\/span><b>AERB Secretariat <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who is an ex-officio member of the Board.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>other four members are eminent experts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from various disciplines relevant to the mandate of the board.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> executive functions <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the AERB shall be<\/span><b> vested in Chairman, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AERB.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Board <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shall be <\/span><b>responsible to the Atomic Energy Commission.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Regional Regulatory Centres (RRCs) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of AERB set up at <\/span><b>Kolkata, Chennai and New Delhi <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">carry out regular surveillance of the radiation facilities in eastern, southern and northern zones respectively.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AERB has a <\/span><b>Safety Research Institute (SRI) located at Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which carries out research in safety related topics.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>AERB license is a mandatory certification for entities involved in the use of ionizing radiation and nuclear energy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in India.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
