Prosecutors<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The court carries out its investigations through the Office of the Prosecutor and has 18 judges.<\/li>\n<li>Both the judges and prosecutors hold non-renewable nine-year terms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Process<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>There are pre-trial, trial, and appellate benches in the ICC.<\/li>\n<li>The prosecutor conducts a preliminary examination in a matter, before seeking permission from pre-trial judges to open a full investigation.<\/li>\n<li>The initial examination must conclude that the crimes in question are of sufficient gravity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ways to open investigations<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The prosecutor can open an investigation in three ways:<\/li>\n<li>when a case is referred by a member country in its own territory;<\/li>\n<li>when a case is referred by the UN Security Council; and<\/li>\n<li>when the prosecutor takes up a case proprio motu or on his own.<\/li>\n<li>Non-member states can also be investigated in three ways:<\/li>\n<li>if alleged crimes were perpetrated by non-members in member states,<\/li>\n<li>if the non-members accept the court\u2019s jurisdiction, or<\/li>\n<li>when the Security Council authorises it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>ICC issues arrest warrant<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>What have Netanyahu and Gallant been accused of?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The ICC accuses <strong>Netanyahu and Gallant<\/strong> of the <strong>war crime of starvation<\/strong> and <strong>crimes against humanity<\/strong>, including <strong>murder, persecution<\/strong>, and <strong>other inhumane acts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It alleges they intentionally deprived Gaza&#8217;s civilians of essential resources like food, water, medicine, fuel, and electricity from <strong>October 8, 2023, to May 20, 2024<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Additionally, by restricting medical supplies, including anaesthetics, they are accused of causing great suffering to those in need of treatment.<\/li>\n<li>The ICC also holds them responsible for actions by Israeli forces under their command, including <strong>torture, violence, killings, rape<\/strong>, and <strong>property destruction<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>What happens once ICC issues an arrest warrant?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The ICC\u2019s arrest warrants are binding but rely on member states for enforcement.<\/li>\n<li>If <strong>Netanyahu<\/strong> or <strong>Gallant<\/strong> travel to any of the ICC member states, those governments are obligated to arrest and extradite them to The Hague.<\/li>\n<li>While the ICC previously issued a warrant for <strong>Russian President Vladimir Putin<\/strong>, isolating him from Western nations, Netanyahu\u2019s case is more complex.<\/li>\n<li>Many of Israel\u2019s allies, like <strong>Germany, France, and the UK<\/strong>, are ICC members but are unlikely to arrest him due to their support for Israel.<\/li>\n<li>The warrant serves more as a <strong>moral victory for Palestine<\/strong>, increasing international pressure on Israel and limiting Netanyahu\u2019s travel without causing diplomatic embarrassment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q.1.
