{"id":4453,"date":"2026-02-20T12:37:59","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T07:07:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=4453"},"modified":"2026-02-20T15:15:20","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T09:45:20","slug":"what-is-national-commission-for-scheduled-tribes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-national-commission-for-scheduled-tribes\/","title":{"rendered":"National Commission for Scheduled Tribes"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Commission for Scheduled Tribes Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the 23rd Foundation Day of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) was celebrated in New Delhi.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Commission for Scheduled Tribes<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>constitutional body<\/b> <b>established by amending Article 338<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and inserting a <\/span><b>new Article 338A<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Historical Evolution<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NCST\u2019s establishment is rooted in the <\/span><b>Constitution (89th Amendment) Act, 2003.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior to this amendment, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes was a combined entity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The separation into two distinct Commissions-NCSC and NCST-occurred on <\/span><b>19 February 2004.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Headquarters:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> New Delhi<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Composition of National Commission for Scheduled Tribes<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Chairperson:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Holds the rank of a <\/span><b>Union Cabinet Minister.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Vice-Chairperson:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Holds the rank of a <\/span><b>Minister of State.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Members:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Their ranks are equivalent to that of a <\/span><b>Secretary to the Government of India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The terms of office for these <\/span><b>positions are three years<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the date of assuming charge.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Functions of National Commission for Scheduled Tribes<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To monitor safeguards provided for STs under the Constitution or under other laws;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To inquire into <\/span><b>specific complaints relating to Rights &amp;
