


{"id":46112,"date":"2025-05-02T17:31:59","date_gmt":"2025-05-02T12:01:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=46112"},"modified":"2025-05-16T17:33:14","modified_gmt":"2025-05-16T12:03:14","slug":"rishikesh-karnaprayag-tunnel-t-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/rishikesh-karnaprayag-tunnel-t-8\/","title":{"rendered":"Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Tunnel T-8"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Tunnel T-8 Latest News<\/h2>\n<p>Tunnel No. 8 (T-8) is set to become India\u2019s longest rail transportation tunnel at 14.57 km, surpassing the current longest T-50 (12.77 km) on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link.<\/p>\n<h2>About Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Tunnel T-8<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>T-8<\/strong>\u00a0is a\u00a0<strong>twin tunnel<\/strong>\u00a0situated on the\u00a0<strong>Devprayag\u2013Janasu stretch<\/strong>\u00a0of the\u00a0<strong>125-km Rishikesh\u2013Karnaprayag Broad Gauge Rail Link Project<\/strong>, in the\u00a0<strong>state of Uttarakhand<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The project is being implemented by\u00a0<strong>Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL)<\/strong>, a\u00a0<strong>Navratna PSU<\/strong>\u00a0under the\u00a0<strong>Ministry of Railways<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>executed by Larsen &amp; Toubro (L&amp;T)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Over 83% of the 125-km alignment<\/strong>\u2014about\u00a0<strong>104 km<\/strong>\u2014comprises tunnels, making it one of the most\u00a0<strong>underground-intensive rail projects in India<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The rail line will connect\u00a0<strong>Rishikesh to Karnaprayag<\/strong>, cutting travel time from\u00a0<strong>7 hours to just 2 hours<\/strong>, enhancing connectivity across\u00a0<strong>five districts<\/strong>:\u00a0<strong>Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Engineering and Technological Highlights<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs)<\/strong>\u00a0were used for the\u00a0<strong>first time in Himalayan rail projects<\/strong>\u00a0to excavate\u00a0<strong>10.4 km of T-8<\/strong>.
