{"id":46187,"date":"2025-04-25T12:00:38","date_gmt":"2025-04-25T06:30:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=46187"},"modified":"2025-05-28T15:43:59","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T10:13:59","slug":"sea-of-marmara","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sea-of-marmara\/","title":{"rendered":"Sea of Marmara"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Sea of Marmara Latest News<\/h2>\n<p>A 6.2 magnitude earthquake whose epicenter was in the Sea of Marmara hit Istanbul recently.<\/p>\n<h2>About Sea of Marmara<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a\u00a0<strong>small inland sea<\/strong>\u00a0that is completely\u00a0<strong>bordered by<\/strong>\u00a0the transcontinental nation of\u00a0<strong>Turkey<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It covers an area of 11,350 sq.km.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is about 280 km long and has a maximum width of 80 km at its widest point.<\/li>\n<li>It\u00a0<strong>separates<\/strong>\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>Asian and European parts of Turkey.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In the northeast, it is<strong>\u00a0connected to\u00a0<\/strong>the\u00a0<strong>Black Sea via the Bosphorus Strait<\/strong>, whereas in the southwest, it is\u00a0<strong>linked with the Aegean Sea via the Dardanelles Strait.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It serves as a\u00a0<strong>transitional zone between<\/strong>\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Salinity<\/strong>:\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cold, fresh Black Sea water entering through the Bosporus meets warm and salty water of Mediterranean Sea<\/strong>\u00a0origin flowing in through the Dardanelles Strait.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>This creates the\u00a0<strong>situation where fresher water<\/strong>\u00a0is located\u00a0<strong>near the surfac<\/strong>e and much s<strong>altier water near the bottom.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Climate: The sea has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and coldand wet winters.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Earthquakes: The\u00a0<strong>North Anatolian Fault,<\/strong>\u00a0which\u00a0<strong>runs beneath the sea,\u00a0<\/strong>has caused several massive earthquakes in the region.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Major Islands:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Marmara Island, Prince Islands,<\/strong>\u00a0Av\u015fa, Imrali, Ekinlik, and Pa\u015falimani Islands.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Marmara Island\u00a0<\/strong>is T<strong>urkey\u2019s second-largest island\u00a0<\/strong>as well as the l<strong>argest island in the Marmara Sea<\/strong>.
