These changes\u00a0<strong>affect the speed and direction of shear-waves<\/strong>, which scientists can monitor.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>degree of shear-wave splitting increases<\/strong>\u00a0when\u00a0<strong>internal pressure builds up<\/strong>, offering a\u00a0<strong>potential early-warning signal<\/strong>\u00a0for impending eruptions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>About Mount Ontake<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mount Ontake<\/strong>\u00a0is an\u00a0<strong>active stratovolcano<\/strong>\u00a0located in\u00a0<strong>Honsh\u016b Island, Central Japan<\/strong>, near Tokyo.
