{"id":4697,"date":"2023-01-17T08:43:38","date_gmt":"2023-01-17T03:13:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=4697"},"modified":"2025-03-27T01:53:49","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T20:23:49","slug":"what-is-a-solitary-wave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-a-solitary-wave\/","title":{"rendered":"What is a Solitary Wave?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>With the help of high-resolution electric field data recorded by the Langmuir Probe and Waves instrument on the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) spacecraft of NASA researchers identified the solitary waves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Key facts about the Solitary wave<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Solitary waves are distinct <strong>electric field fluctuations<\/strong> (bipolar or monopolar) that follow constant amplitude-phase relations.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Their shape and size are less affected during their propagation.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The magnitude and duration of these pulses are found to be 1-25 milivolt\/meter and 0.2\u20131.7 milliseconds, respectively.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>These pulses are dominantly seen in the <strong>dawn and afternoon<\/strong> dusk sectors at an altitude of 1000\u20133500 km around Mars.<\/li>\n<li>Through simulations, it is found that the spatial extent of these structures is very small (30-330 meters).
